Hey guys,

Ive been looking for a daily for a while now, my dads friend Jim who helped me with my L67 (Supercharged V6 into my Holden Calais) conversion has restored a few Datsun's throughout the years, this 120Y is the last one he has done. He said that this 120Y was in the best condition of all the 120Y's he has come across, with only 89044 original km's on it. He is now moving on to something else.

Name:
Daniel

Model:
1978 Datsun 120Y

89,044km April 2009

Colour:
Cream

Body:
Resprayed factory colour
New chrome bumpers front & rear
New badges
New bailey channels
New door seals
New plastic moldings
New weather strips
New grill
New lights all round

Engine Type:
A12

Engine Mods:
New valve stem seals
Duel fuel

Power:
69hp(says on plaque in bay...pffft)

Gearbox:
New syncros

Diff:
Standard

Brakes:
Standard

Suspension:
New front struts & springs
New rear leafs
New bushes all round

Wheels/Tyres:
Standard 12" with factory hubcaps

Interior:
Re-trimmed cream vinyl in original Datsun pattern
Original carpets
Original dash
Duel fuel button

1/4 mile:
Unknown

Stereo:
Original AM radio

Build Period:
3 Days

Cost:
$4250

Future mods:
Tint
13" Superlite rims
Vintage looking cd player that fits in stock location hopefully.
Custom rear parcel shelf with 2 speakers so i dont damage the original one.

This is buy far the best Datsun ive ever driven, it averages 750kms per gas tank, anywhere from 1000-1200 on a good run using both tanks. It cost me $36 to fill the gas tank that is from a Camry and about $30 to fill the fuel tank.

Enjoy the photos & let me know what you think.

hello peters

thats a nice looking 120y you have lined up
just remember nearly all datsuns are pretty prone to rust
so just check out all the nooks and crannys and see what you can find
if you are personaly happy paying what this guy is asking for
the only advice anyone can give is go for it

if you dont know much about a12 engines
they are extremely reliable
perfect for a daily ,, if your not after too much power that is

i even found the a12 engine in the fast fours maganize in an article they did about the top 10 four bangers ever made
of course the sr20det came in first for something like 10/10 for power and 8/10 for reliability

but i was happy to see the a12 in 9th place with 1/10 for power and 11/10 for reliability

cheers
Jason

Another B210 Economiser Gauge. Are those common in Australia? I have never seen one in USA (except aftermarket ones).Quote:

Cheers juniorjay,

Ive already purchaed the new 120Y, its the second one ive had, my first 1974 120Y is now being used by my mum, my first had the A13.

I know a fair bit about Datsun's and their engines so theres no worries there and i have unfortunately experience the rust disease on my first 120Y, however i removed it myself. My new Datsun only has one small 4mm circle of rust on the boot, very common place, where the substance they used in the factory for connecting boot with boot frame, it absorbs moisture im sure. There are heaps of common spots on them however my new 120Y has been treated with fisholene. The rooflining was removed and the pillers and roof were all done, aswell as the door insides and rocker panels. So it should be good for a while.

Hey ddgonzal,

Of the 3 120Y's we have had in the family (2 were mine, 1974 & 1978) This is the first one ive had with the economy gauge, the other two both had clocks which in my opinion would be mroe useful :(
