D can tell us, he indicated it was formerly owned by him. One possibility is that someone drilled out the small holes to GX-size holes.

So which heads came with water galleys leading to the manifold?
Twin-Carb heads, and most newer heads of all types (circa 1980-up).

And so the saga continues....if the word Nissan is not cast into the top of the head it's not a GX head.
This looks to me to be a garden variety A15 head with the "works"just as we do them for our cars.

Heaps of porting and big valves, what is of interest though are the valve spring tops, would work a treat with high lift cams, and would save me having the towers machined down to get some semblance of normality back to the angle of the fingers.

Bert and Brent are spot on.

618 looks like the number, wierd.

Good stuff.

Here are some bigger pictures. Those three holes are bizarre. Looks like they have been blocked.

Yes, looks like the three standard holes were drilled out larger to fit plugs.

Anyone know what 618 and 716 type codes mean?

By the way, the engine is the M72 block.

everyone has still failed to point out the fact that this motor has nissans factory high tensile head bolts.. the number 13 on the bolts tells you that these are the higher tensile ones or so the nissan competition tunning manual states
but is something to look for when scouring over any a series motors in wrecking yards
ididnt think anyone would have pointed it out
i have a set of these head bolts i found them on the a14 thrift motor i purchased sometime ago and yes i will be using them and no im not selling them

'13' bolts are a big deal? I've seen them a hundred times. Early A12s don't have them, but I think mid-1972 fitted them.

That sort of tone is pretty provocative, there is a whole lot of "I's" in there. Number 13 bolts aren't a favourable item and they aren't a sought after item. Lets not let head bolts become another 'hot' datsun item that shouldn't be.

Is everything alright? You are (definitely) dead right about the head bud but this thread isn't about challenging(your or my, or anyone else's) knowledge.
