if you dont want to be mucking around with gearbox crossmembers
Then generally you would stick with a sunny box
1980 B310 =a15 = 60 series gearbox, correct?

yeah thats true, just heard that the original sunny 5 speeds aren't very reliable, not sure how true that is though. wouldn't have any clue how much u could pick up a 60 series gearbox 4, thats the 5 speed right?

Your problem isn't how reliable (very reliable), but in finding one. The supply in Australia dried up long ago, with only the occasional private sale or wrecker having one. That's why Toyota gearboxes are used with an adaptor/bellhousing. Dellow do the most common kit, but people on this site have made their own using the bellhousing from a A series auto. So if you can find a 5 speed it'll go straight in & shouldn't cause any problems, especially if you fit new bearings first. But it might be cheaper & easier to get the Toyota box & the Dellow kit. Are you still using the A12 or is it an A14/15? The overdrive 5 speed really wont be much use around town, but is an advantage on the open road.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

ohk yeh i heard that they were pretty hard to come by, ohk sweet il have to check that out. im still using the original A12, i do a lot of country driving and the 5th gear would just come in handy alot. i think il just keep and eye out 4 a Toyota box with the bellow kit, will be a lot easier, cheers much appreciated
