tastefully modding a cars suspension would make it handle better?
cut springs are dangerous which were already illegal

these law makers dont know much

No biggy will just add it to the list of things that need engineering. Where i am the engineer charges $600 whether its to check one thing or 50 things its a flat fee. Also 5 centimetres is what 2 inches ?. Do we need it any lower on the street ?

Don't get to comfortable, I wouldn't mind betting other states adopt it. What's perhaps the most annoying is that sensible guys have always done things right, and didn't need a nanny looking over their shoulders every step of the way. But tools will be tools, and there's unfortunately no shortage of idiots running around on cut springs that aren't captive, suspension which has bottomed out, you name it.

We'll always suffer because of the idiots, and because politicians (and they'd be nuts if they didn't) tend to do whatever they can to stay in power, and as such uniting against 'the enemy' (tm) in this case 'hoons' will get them a few votes.

What they should do is just draw up sensible guidelines, and require a roadworthy cert after suspension mods. Surely any competent mechanic could work out if something is done right, it needn't require an engineer each and every time. Heck they could even just stipulate a minimum travel before it hit the bump stops or similar.

Maybe they could (and they could get the manufacturers/companies to fund the submissions) start to put together a list of approved springs - i.e. let's say they test pedders abc-234 model spring for a commodore, and it only lowers it by the legal amount, and remains captive, well that spring could then be approved, and people could fit it and have it approved without massive engineer's reports on each and every one. Of course that doesn't have the same impact with the voters.

Probably the only thing I don't mind too much - std 1200s aren't exactly on stilts and there'd still be enough freedom to run safely.

I read it that if the car has been lowered before the 1st of august then it doesn't need to be approved. If this is the case as long as your car is manufactured before this date (you have dilivery of the car) how can the say that the mods were not done before this date.

Surely any suspension shop/fitters should be qualified to install suspension etc safely. After paying them for the install would you then have to pay to get it certified. Sounds like the politician/s may have some friends in the engineering business.

I agree. Maybe I'm getting old. But the roads are not getting any better.

If you want a sports car ..buy one.. or engineer your old car properly.

This just stops the dodgy brothers honda/hyundai/dunnydore owners with the angle grinder. That kind of lowering action is dangerous. Hit a dip at speed in the wet, and you'll be aquaplaning off the road and into a tree.

how high is a standard 1200? i got excited when i read the posts about 5cm until i realised that's how much you could lower it, not how low it could be. do these rules mean that you could engineer a ferrari to be like 1mm off the ground?
