actually dodgy, they are 120y springs. no 1200 springs have the rubber blocks, but they are needed if your running a 120y diff as the mounts are different

if the spring centre bolts werent in the right place to start with then wat was positioning the diff? was it centred on the bolts?
if so it should have noticably been crab walking

id be measuring both the leaf springs and making sure that the are or arent the same thing. if they are different then get new springs

i wouldnt say all the wrong reasons, im pretty sure it was L18_B110 that said that most of the spring packs in 1200s set up for track work will have an upside down spring on the top of the pack

it stiffens the spring pack up and lowers it essentially the same way that adding more weight to the car would

to continue... by pre loading the leaf spring pack, so not ideal but effective. By pre loading it it is always under partial load and can either crack or seriously hasten is metal fatigue/wear.

personaly i hate lowering blocks and have always taken them out from cars i have bought with them in them.

I stand corrected in relation to the rubber parts. The last 1200 that I looked under was a sedan with a 120Y rear axle assembly & it had the rubber parts as part of the overall conversion from memory.

The spring 'rating' is the number of pounds [or killergrammes] needed to compress the spring one inch [or other metric unit of measure]
If a spring leaf is reversed, & placed on the top of the spring stack, as is usually the case, it no longer contributes to the overall spring rating. Worse, the downward force that it exerts counters the upward force of the remaining leaves, so the spring would actually be softer, not stiffer.

What's worse is that the lower spring leaf no longer has the support that it needs in the area nearest the axle housing [this assumes that the lower spring leaf is removed, then inverted & placed on the top of the spring stack]

The end result would be an increased risk of spring leaf fracture in this area.

So I stick by my earlier assertion that it will successfully lower the suspension but for the wrong reasons.

I too am not at all keen on lowering blocks, but would tolerate them if the ammount was quite small. For me the limit would be somewhere in the 1" to 1-1/2" range.
Hardly worth the effort really.

okay thanks for that guys.
pretty sure ill take the springs out and take them into somewhere (wheres the best place on the coast?)
and get them reset, it sounds easiest, does anyone have any idea on what price they will be ? just a rough idea?
also, on the way home then i was thinking to myself, if the uni joint on the diff to tail shaft was at a certain part of the roation could it stop the diff from lining up properly?
cus the blocks are perfectly lined uplike the dimple and the pin, so im stumped,
oh and the springs are the same. and my car wasnt crab walking. so i have no idea whats happened, and also,

bert i might also take you up on that offer next weekend but ill let you no on a closer date

look in the yellow pages under spring makers or whatever and give a few a call.
find yourself a good price, as you will find a big difference in prices to do the job. some joints will charge stupid amounts and other places will be substantially cheaper.

I rang a company in Victoria called 'carols springs' located in thomastown only last week.
You can have them reset to any height you want and as stiff or soft as you want (within reason). All for only $150

Not that much dearer than a set of lowering blocks!!! although a small amount of extra work.

Call even a major suspension place like your local pedders or similar... I'm sure they could point you in the right direction.
