Howdy.
I recently purchased a 1200 sedan as a project and yesterday i scored a 120y for a slab of beer. I have a few questions.
My 1200 is an auto, will the 120y A12 and manual box fit straight in ?
The 120y has a disc brake front end, straight swap ?
The 120y rear springs seem harder than the 1200, straight swap ?
what other stuff should i keep out of it ?
Thank's guys

the mounts for the auto are about 5 inch further back then the manual gearbox so no,, and apparently the cross member is diferent between a 1200 and 120y anyhow so even if it did fit you would need to get yourself a manual 1200 crossmember

If your that interested in changing the 1200 to manual you will nedd to get a 60 series gearbox, these come from any datsun sunny which came with a 1.5 litre engine

as for the engine
You will need to study the diference between a late a12 engine and an early a12 engine,, i do believe there is a diference between the 2 when it comes to the engine mounts,, the 120y most probably has a late engine , while the 1200 most probably has an early engine,,

Cheers

struts n disk brakes are a straight bolt in

motor may need the mounts from you 1200 motor on it to fit

n box i cant see a problem with ( might have to play around with gearbox crossmember 1200 one or the 120y one youll get there :)

you can swap the brakes over and struts possibly, might hve to look at LCAs and stuff, if your 1200 is drum front you will need to swap brake master cyl over as well as drum will be a single unit.

rear leaves can be swapped over, im rumming 120y ones in mine currently with h150 diff from a 120y.

you will need to use the manual tailshaft from the 120y as well as the pedal box possibly as the auto will e mossing a clutch pedal.

also you need to mod the auto x memeber to match the manual box, as you will notice the auto tunnel is wider than a manual one.

i havent done that one, other members can help out there but doesnt look too hard.

To look original or factory you need a late ute cross member to swap motor.

With gearbox if it only has the one gearbox mount then in a 1200 Auto tunnel you will need to make/extend the existing gearbox crossmember about 15-20 cm some boxes have 2 mounts one near tailshaft input then you only need to extend crossmember about 20mm .

As said diff is a straight bolt in get it especially if it has a removable inspection plate on rear and borg warner written on the bottom side near where the tail shaft connects.

Get all the front end from 120y especially the castor/radius rods and sway bar.

You will need to swap the springs and strut tops off the 1200 struts on to the 120y ones as the 120y ones will make the car sit higher and throw things out a bit you will see the difference when you have both out.

Recently with other members advice i removed the second shortest leaf spring from the 120y pack and added it to the top of the pack in 1200 flipped over.
Did it while i was swapping to the above mentioned diff. Makes it nice and stiff and also will sit lower cause it flattens your springs.

what kind of 120y? sedan,2dr
sedan, wagon, coupe.wagon springs have an extra leaf.and what year?as the front end copmponents on the early ones are smaller and weaker,u may be downgrading.main thing u want is the sway bar off it.any aseries 4 speed will fit also.
