20B is a triple rotor. Its basically a 13B with another rotor on the side.

Not sure what its called but its the piston equivalent of a crankshaft is quite long and Mazda had trouble with them flexing too much. Thats the main reason they stopped making them.

Still they are faster. The only rotaries in the 6s I think are 20Bs while the fastest 13B is still in the 7s (could be slightly wrong on those numbers but the 20B definately is used in the fastest drag cars)

Are you saying you'd rather have a slower, more economical car than a faster more thirsty one? If those are the two choices, I'll take the extra performance and pay for the fuel. I've had cars that get less than 12 mpg (what's that? about 4.8 km/liter, I think) and it was no big deal (wasn't a rotary either, just detroit V8 iron in heavy cars).

It depends where you are. In america with the rotaries and the "small-block" 5.7 litre v8s your used to terrible fuel consumption and it dont matter as much cause fuel is so cheap.

I dont like the fuel economy of a std rotary or V8 let alone a highly modified one.

It all depends on your definition of performance too. Currently my car would do the standing 1/4 in a low 15 second and still gets around 35mpg on a trip. (Not talking about a datsun) Sure I could go faster but for a daily driver is it really worth the extra cost. Im glad 10 second cars exist but Id rather not own one.

If its just a toy as alot of those cars are then all well and good but im pretty sure alot of them are used daily as well

Yes, I had a 1984 Chevy Impala 5.7 liter that got 12mpg. The other one was a 1974 Lincoln Continental with (stock) 7.5 liter engine which got worse, like 10mpg. I doubt if a stock 20B guzzled that much fuel.

the word is eccentric shaft, and the 20B is only small potatoes compared to the "big block" 26B, but unfortuantely, there are not produced and are very hard to make even in a rotary workshop.
rotaries also use a lot of oil, like when you fill up, 100ml of two-stroke oil in with the gasoline per every 20 litres.

yes it is a patent issue with the product of the wankel rotary engine, but their rights to that patent is running out soon so who knows what will be next.

I can see where u are coming from DD, when it comes to speed and performance u cant escape from the fact that any car that is fast will chew alot of petrol. im building my car up to be a nice looking, nice sounding and comfortable street car but later on when i know more about datsuns i am planning to get another 120y coupe and do a 350 chev conversion with big carbs, but that will only be used for drag.
