were the engines running on their own power or were they hooked up to a high revving electric motor?
theres some club near me where they build engines and run em without oil to see how long they last for fun

you do realize it cost next to nothing to rebuild a rotary, and it is very easy too.

yeah i was at thoe nationals and ther ws no rotary hooked up at al just a 4 cl, with no oil or water.

rotors are used in the 6 cyl class, they put out just as much horsepower as a 6 cylinder with less than half the weight. i can make some good money. especially with the 20b

But hang on... rotaries have twice the capacity of an equivalent sized reciprocating piston engine, i.e. 13b 1.3L rotary has 2 x 654 cc & 1.3L reciprocating has 4 x 325cc. This means that for every revolution a rotary engine displaces 1300cc, more likened to a 2 stroke engine, and for every revolution a reciprocating piston engine of 1.3L displaces 650cc, exactly half that of the rotary. So, if a 13b rotary should be compared to anything it is justifiably compared to a 6 cylinder engine or four cylinder with capacity above 2.6L. Not such a magical engine after all. Some of the few things it has going for it is its lack of weight, port size liberties and physically compact size made up by the fact that its internal must cope with twice the ammount of force from combustion, rather than to spread it over four cylinders. Other than that it is a really inefficient engine.

i dont know who is doing your rebuilds, but here in adelaide, for a mild rotary engine rebuild it cost double that.

for proof go to: http://www.dysonrotary.com.au/
rebuilds at a reputable rotary engine builder:
12A / 13B engine rebuilds from $1650
Priceless, literally!

who pays people to rebuild their engine though? specially a rotar akll u gotta do is replace all the seals and in a bad case the apex seals. i think someone should delet this thread before ppl start getting annoyed at one another coz of their likes/dislikes of rotars and it starts to have bad effects on the club

I know what i wrote, & after being a motor mechanic for almost 38 years, i stand by it.

Its like the old Jet versus the recip engine [with propellor] situation
The kero burner is fast, spectacular & exciting, but it will never replace the airplane. Real airplanes that is.

The rotary is also fast, spectacular & exciting, but it will never replace the internal combustion engine. Real internal combustion engines that is.

Give me my "A" series Datsuns for my little toy, or my V8 Dodge hemi for a real car.

personally my only issues with rotarys is the waa waa waa noise, the overly lowered (or "boned and crommed") cars and the backwards-cap little thugs that are assosated with them. that and i dont know enough about the upkeep and mod side of them. call me old fashioned but i like the conventional 4stroke.

im no rice boy. the datsun isn't meant to sound like a pissed off weed eater with a 20 foot wing on the back and the car sitting on the ground. this is just going to be an ordinary datsun, with extraordinary talent

No, rotarize it and it becomes a Datsda or Dazda.

Conversely, if you were to put a Datsun engine in your Mazda, you would be obliged to call your car a Mazdun or a Matsun.

Okay guys, only one more reply and we break 100! We want ought to be able to keep this thread going to infinity and beyond!
