Mmmmmmm........................ very interesting!!

Have you checked out the oil pump itself? could be the relief valve? or the spring in front of it?

Pump itself might be worn out?

It could be somthing as simple as an air leak in the oil system?

Just throwing some ideas at ya,is there any pressure at all?

What are the chances of pulling the engine out again?

I'd be checking the simple things like oil pickup etc an following the oiling system around.

Did you put it together yourself (I can't remember if you did, or if you did some of the machining)?

Unless there is something up with the regulator valve in the actual pump, it can only be a few things.

So when you crank it, the gauge reads nothing.

Has it got the right oil filter?

Try another pump or use that pump on a working A-series.

Check the pressure gauge works?

Sorry oil filter wouldn't make sense as you'd still see pressure.

I've had something similar happen & it was the gasket between the oil pickup & the block. It had fallen off one of the bolts when I was doing it up & was blocking the gallery up into the block. Maybe the same thing has happened to you. The bad news is that I had to take the motor out to check & repair. The cause of my mistake was I had a baffled sump & I had to put the pickup through it before fitting either to the block.Maybe you could remove the oil pump & drop the sump, then get a mirror on a stick likes dentists use to inspect the pick up gasket. I suggest this because your obviously not getting oil from the sump.
