i want to adapt an electric fan in my stock ute is this recommended? i have been told that this give more power to the engine is that true? what type of fan can i use?

you would use an automotive thermo fan

they free up a bit of power as they only run when they need to unlike the current fan that would be running all the time

a thermo fan wont usually cool as well as the engine fan as its alot less powerful. engine fan has atleast 50hp making it turn....electric one doesnt

maybe adapting a big one and put it direct, i think it will work, my friend´s 120y have one like this, but im no sure if it will work well

oh yeah they work, just that they wont ever work as well as the stock one

ive got 2 12 inch thermos on my car and they seem to do the job nicely

can probably fit a single 12inch with the stock radiator

You'd be lucky to gain 1-2 bhp from swapping to an electric fan. and when the fan is off, the power to drive it comes from the alternator, so the power output under those circumstances would be the same. The only way it would be less is if the electric fan moves a hell of a lot less air.

Give it a try, you can always switch it back it you don't like the outcome. remember it's all trial and error.

Some 120Y's came with a plastic shroud that fitted to the radiator. It was a 2 piece. If you could find something like that, & fit say the 10 inch fan from an N12 Pulsar so air was drawn from the whole radiator, it'd probably work well. Something I was going to try with my B310 Sunny was get a fan sender from an N12 Pulsar & mount it in the head opposite the temperature guage sender. Most later A series heads have a fitting that is part of the emissions control, I was going to use that outlet, with a relay to run the fan. That way the fan is only running when the engine is hot.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

I just switched to a Subaru Justy 4x4 rad, the electric fan is actually the perfect size to fit inside the opening in front of where the radiator fits... on the outside of the rad, not the inside. (grill side not engine side)

I'll see how it works, I needed to get rid of the stock fan so I could run intercooler/piping etc.

I will get pics soon.

Yes you can save 2% horsepower.
But you have to be really careful. The stock setup won't overheat, but many electric fan conversions have. Never fear, if you do it right it works just well.
