You cant bore a 1000 or 1100 out to 1275 cc, they have different bore centres or sumthing like that

You also will struggle to fit two twin choke webbers on a mini, ive personally never seen it done, even to fit a single sidedraught webber you have to muck around with the bulkhead as its too close.

You are wrong man people in NZ bore minis out to 1440, and if by a slight chance you are right about not being able to bore a mini to 1275, then you just get an engine from an Austin or MG 1300 which has bigger valves. You also take the 1300 gearbox which ways about twice a mini one so then you are able to develop power. Also you can fit twin sidedraft webbers on a mini as all the 140hp racing minis in NZ do have them. Sorry I meant front wheel discs from a honda city which is a very easy conversion to make.

To get 1440 cc you need to use a 1275 block. Twin side drafts can be fitted but are split wasting one choke . I have a MG Metro sitting in my workshop if anyone wants it...1275 A + engine vented discs and 4 pot AP calipers it's driveable , no rego or wof and it needs a CV joint . I planned to use the bits in a Mini shell for my oldest boy but he's gone off Mini's now. But back to the originalsubject I would still build a Datto over an Escort or for that matter a Mini.....

I know you can bore A series motors out to 1440. The largest people usually go to is 1380 which I think is 60 thou over, after that theyre not quite as strong but its still possible. By using the largest bore and stroke its possible to get to 1600cc. I interpreted you meaning you could bore a 1000 out to 1275cc which im almost certain you cant, its not hard to find a 1300 block though

I thought the 1300 gearbox was the same as the mini one but its not somthing ive had anything to do with so I could be wrong there.

Anyway back to the main topic Datsun is better than Escort which is better than Mini. At least for rallying, on the road id put a mini ahead of an escort, althought he escort would probably be faster at least in a straight line
