It's probably "glued" in position with the old gasket sealant.
Jiggle it a little it'l come.

Grab the old pump firmly & wiggle it up & down to free it up. The original gaskets may also break & you may need to make or buy some replacements. No big deal either way.

try TAPING it with a hamer (not to hard!) the shock should loosen it. As for the whole replacing the fuel pump thing goes im living proof of 'ask first' assume later. i replaced the a12 pump with a latter model one and ASSUMED it would be all good. i now have one broken drive arm somewhere in my sump and 2 dead pumps. so dont worry about asking 'dumb' questions on this site. i own a manual and it still didnt help me with choice of pump.

You BOZO, you didn't compare pumps. If you did, you would have seen that the arm was diferent. Wait,.... i'm having a distant memory coming foward.

Oh yeah, i did exactly the same thing about 18 years ago, except my pump's arm was hanging on by a thread & i got it out. Durr.

lol. Dumb eh. should have checked. good to see im not the only one though. there should be a special page in the tec section on what NOT to do. everyone could list their stupid mistakes. it would be a good way to vent anger and prevent others from doing the same thing.
