This thread has absolutely been done to death. Loads and loads of details are in several very detailed threads. Try "ca18det costs" in the Search Bar on the left of the page.

But here's the summary:
1. Better to have an auto transmission tunnel.

2. If you don't have AU$8000 to $10000 spare cash. Please don't start it. It can end up costing over $15,000, if you take good diff, body, intercooler, turbo and brakes mods into account.

3. If you are under 25 you'll want a 40k+/year job to pay for the insurance.
