My 1000 2 door sedan today was first registered in 1970 and its an early 1968 one that sat in a country nissan dealership before it was reduced in price to clear the showroom for the 1200s coming in. It has the short tail lights and early grill (the one after the aluminium one) and the owners apparantely had eyed it for 2 years before the day came in 1970.
Vicroads here think its a 1970 built car.
But it has no Australian compliance plate which makes it a 68 model.
I think the last one rolled of the line in late 69 and I had a sept 69 one with 23,000 miles my mate bought from me with original japanese shipping papers and has the late long type lights (2 door sedan).
There could have been registered in 1970 but maybe some did get built or assembled in early 1970 to get rid of stock laying round.

You say that one of your cars was a "sept '69" one. Is this when it was first registered, when it was built, or does it have some sort of compliance plate with that date on it?
A car that was actually "built" in Sept '69 would be a "'70 model", regardless of when it was registered.

If you back up [down?] the thread, you will see where i have writen a whole stack of serial numbers & you may be able to pick the model from that. If not, then see if you can post, or PM me the serial number & i will tell you what my parts book says.

With the popularity of these early Datsuns, i am beginning to think i was 20 years ahead of the game. Most people laughed at mine,... till i drove by them,... towing a boat,... uphill, then they just thought i was eccentric.

In my view, the '68 had the best grille & the 4 door was the better looking of the sedans, so be proud of your car.


What does it look like.(the grill) My dads '67 is the only different one out of all four 1000s we have. if you can track down the japanese orange 1000 on this site a while ago it has the same grill as dads.. The other 3 are the ones like the coupe yellow and red racing one. stevo1000 i think owns it..

Sorry Dodge my mate has the blue sept 69er and hes got it somewhere else in storage but will find out when he gets it back as hes got some troubles with the people who did the Baleno Gtx engine transplant with the sierra box. I remember in the Jap shipping papers I think it was built in sept and was reg and delivered as soon as it hit our shores in the same month. They were built on contract by a truck body builder "Zama" who have sadly recently closed down. They were responsible for a weight of 625kg on my standard poor mans optioned 1000 2 door sedan and the ute at 615 would be match in weight once the rear windows on the sedan were replaced with Lexan and other bits and pieces were thrown out. So that removes the fallacy that utes are lighter. I mean you just have to look at the 1200s too and see the same thing occurring.

Thanks for the links, they proved both informative & confusing. To get confused, you will need to also look at the link provided by the " easy to spell" D in the posting after yours.

In one of your links there is a list of articles provided by you that clearly indicates that production of the B110 was started in January of 1970.
In "D's" link, it states that the B10 production was continued untill June of 1970. Is it possible that both are correct. Is it possible that one factory was winding down production of one model, while another factory was ramping up production of a new model, & progressively replacing the old in markets all over the world.

At this time, i'm ready to believe just about anything. The only things that are clear to me is that the new Datsun buyer could have purchased either a new B10 or a B110 during callendar year 1970. If it was a B10, then that car was likeley to be a genuine 1970 "model" B10.[from july 1969] As to when that new B10 was ACTUALLY manufactured is the simple question that, on face value, need little more than a one sentence answer. Hah...Look at all the fun we have had since.

Well the sad thing is most b10s have ended in the scrap heap.
The good thing is since Ive joined this site Ive noticed that their popularity has increased thanks to some of us coming out of the woodwork. This popularity will hopefully save the lightest datsun A series car Nissan ever made or maybe will ever make. I hope more people save the ones I see sometimes driven by old grannies if not well hopefully my phone number on a bit of paper on their windscreen, will bring some my way that I could pass on to others when available or if wanted. Thing is I think the grannies would have gotten scared me putting the bit of paper on their screen while they still driving (thats cause they wouldnt stop dam it!)
