Was there ever a GL Datsun 1000? I've only seen standard and Deluxe in the Japan-market catalogs.

Typical statement from a would be expert(the owner)they where all japanese imports back then,a"private import"was virtually un heard of back then...and certainly not for a Datsun 1000 Coupe! I don't know about other parts of the world, but in Oz you got what you got in the KB10

Yeah, exactly! He stood by the notion that it was unique somewhat but didn't make it out to being a novelty.
I must admit, I still prefer the two door to the coupe. There is something about the KB10 being the 'best of the lot' that I dislike the hype it's associated with.
Nonetheless they're a handsome car, but probably too good for me!
1000's seem to be catching on but the prices still aren't reflecting the interest, that's a good thing I suppose. The grey 2 door in VIC (eBay) however is another story, the owner wants the very high thousands. I wouldn't expect the reserve to lift at anything under AU$5000.

yes, so the coupe's got more horsepower than the others, that doesn't make it better.

I would hardly expect their respective horsepower would attract any more fans than the other models. Don't get me wrong, I'm not labeling them the best, it just seems to be the general consensus.
The sports dash, sports option wheel, the unique trim, fastback rear, slotted rear lights, unique grill and sure, the peppier engine undoubtedly stood the KB10 with sports-appeal superior to the other models.

Depends what you like I prefer the 2 door sedans myself but also love the coupes. If I could have both in my driveway it would be great but then I also love the vans :)) The coupes I love when they are taken a little further and lowered with the right period wheels where the others I love with whitewalls and hubbies. Gotta love these variety for a car with such a short sale run.

yes that has had a sedan apron put on, can anyone show a pic of the original coupe S steering wheel?
one minor change sometime in the short 69 build run was the bottom door trim silver section, most have the silver bottom section in vinyl but theres some with that part made of aluminium.
I heard only coupes had headrests but then not all had them and only coupe has handbrake next to seat and green tint in window glass i think.
also did all coupes have the white top gear knob?

i think the steel dash section and the metal bracing behind the rear seat would make the sedan a stiffer body than the coupe and thats why they raced the sedan and not the coupe at bathurst, even though its got about 5 more hp would be more aerodynamic, its also a fair bit heavier for some reason.
