H150 Ring & pinion question
edp
Posted on: 2009/12/10 16:32
I'm going to pick up a 1980 210 w/a 5 spd, A14 & H150 rear end. I got the car for free & all I wanted was the 5 sp. but I was thinking about using the H150 pumpkin in the 1200 rearend housing if I could get a gear ration of 4.11, is that a common setup in AU & If so would someone have one available they dont need/want to sell?
My concern is the A15 I built for the coupe might ruin the H145 4.365 center I have & that'd be a shame, seems like the smart money's on putting something stronger in there. Thoughts??

Good plan, unfortunatly in Oz you can get any H150 ratio you like...as long as it's a 3.9
I'd make the change anyway,i use a 3.9 H150 in my H145 housing with a mild A14 up front in competition without issues. The only way to get a shorter final drive is to put an H165(ute) under the back or get a ratio set made for big bucks.

Thanks Bert, I thought for some reason DD had told me that the 4.11 setups were widely used in AU, I assumed the H150, that's what I get for assuming.
Any idea what the rear end set up is like in a 67 520 pickup ? In the diff swap section of the Wiki there's a link to swapping a rearend from a 411 (mid 60's sedan I guess)I have access to a pickup as well, not sure what that ratio is - haven't looked yet. Thanks ,Evan

Here in Australia, .....
The H165 diff that was used in the 1200 ute had a ratio of 4.11 to 1. The H150 came with a 3.9 to 1 in everything that used this diff except the very late Sunny Sportswagon [WB310] that was fitted with the A15. This used a diff ratio of 3.7 to 1. A 3.54 to 1 ratio was used in some US models of the B310. [AKA Datsun 210] The iron H145 diff that was used in Aussie 1200's & early 120Y [B210] models came only in 3.9 to 1 The alloy H145 diff that was used in the Datsun 1000 [B10] passenger models & in some 1200 wagons [VB110] used a 4.11 to 1 ratio. The alloy H145 diff that was used in VB10 & B20 models [Datsun 1000 Van & Ute] came with a 4.375 to 1 ratio. There was allegedly a 4.625 to 1 ratio available for these commercial models as a factory option.

thanks for the info guys. I was hoping it'd be an easy upgrade basically using the stock H145 housing. All I need is the elusive 4.11 R & P for a H150 carrier setup & it will be easy.....er
Would anyone know the nissan/nismo part # for the H150 4.11 R & P gear set?

Evan,
I am getting out of the A series motor. I should have let you know. I have (2) 5 speed trannys in my garage and a lot of other A series stuff. If you still need a racing cam, I have one for sale.

It's a Delta Cam out of Tacoma. I believe it has a 278 Duration but I would have to remove it from the motor to verify. PM me if interested. Thanks.
