A-series Flywheels do not have to be balanced, instead when lightening do it on a lathe so an even amount of material is removed.

5 kg sounds like a stock flywheel that has been lightened. Aftermarket flywheels are around 3kg so your's is too heavy for that.

It's not a big job to lighten one for anyone who is halfway decent on a lathe. I'd reccommend that you start with an A12 one from a car, as they are able to be lightened more than the big heavy ugly van units.

just curious but how much difference in performance (how car feels when driving a lightened flywheel vs. not) will losing a few lb's of flywheel weight really make overall - If its mainly affected in the gear shifting area which should only be a few seconds at most why is it worth all the effort?

ok so ive pulled the engine out and am striping it down ready for easter fosc at mt panorama, she needed a freshen up anyway, 6 seasons of racing plus road work will do that, plus it was 20hp down on the dyno sept 2008 so its time for a freshen and go for more power :p. has anybody got any contact of any place that does the 3kg aftermarket flywheels? ie do yella terra do them or someone like that?
thanks kurt
