hi i have had a look at the speedway motor and read the claims of 160hp - poss or not.i know it depends on how much money u throw at it etc etc.just asking cos i am collecting goodies for my build.good a14 motor,a15 sub, undecided on pistons, spare a12 motor of which i would like to use the f/wheel plus plus.maybe s/body can give an idea how to squeeze say 180hp and 200hp i will be as happy as a pig in sh&*% ooh there is a wee little turbo in a box s/where if needed but i thinks n/a.At 180-240hp u should be with the f/runners in our clubmans

there was a pretty wild a15 (1609cc) pic geting about a wile back with claims of 240ish n/a hp?? allthough to get that out of an A series I think you looking at all one-off specialy made everything!?

probly better of to build a solid/reliable motor and bung the turbo on it.

or since its a clubman, a more modern alloy twincam motor? probly a suzuki or mazda if your shooting for under 1600cc?

No offence to the A series but it wouldent be my engine of choice in a clubman.

It is possible. expect to spend 15k for 200 hp from an naturally aspirated A-engine.

For a few thousand dollars, you could make 125HP.

For a naturally aspirated A-series engine, it involves a full-race treatment: Fully-ported head, new induction system (e.g. dual webers), extractor headers, high compression, 8000 rpm camshaft, electronic distributor, etc.

This is HP at the flywheel, not the rear wheels. 1.5 liter is a fairly small engine as mainstream cars.

As per ddgonzal,

Aiming for 200-240hp NA on a A15 you can plan on spending R75k without breaking a sweat, even 175hp thats reliable youll be spending R50k odd

A toyota 4age 20 valve makes 160 BHP. and thats with 1.6 liters, 5 valves per cylinder, quad throttle bodies and efi.

Good luck trying to get 200 reliable (with a nice torque spread) BHP out of a boat

anchor.
