what type of shocks are you running and what are the spring rates? Ive got 250 lbs springs and bilstiens in stanza struts and it ok, could be harder. the shock rebound rate can make a huge difference.

Are the shocks bottoming out? That would be the first thing -- make sure there is enough travel.

If that's OK, Gas shocks will make it ride harder than regular shocks, that is to say gas shocks increase the spring rate. Gas shocks with soft valving might be an improvement over harsh shocks. Can you even buy non-gas shocks any more?

Assuming your suspension has sufficient travel, light springs will make it ride softer. But you will lose load-carrying capacity and some handling. Stiffer sway bars can help with softer springs.

Soft ride is a function of sprung weight (600+ kg in a 1200) versus unsprung weight (wheels, tires, diff, part of the spring weight). So the lighter you make the wheels tires and diff, the softer ride you will get. You could even use softer springs without loss of performance when you reduce unsprung weight. Or you could weigh down the car ... carrying a spare engine in the extrem back makes the ride softer.

I know I am taking Dodgemans area of expertise here so I will tread carefully.
The obvious is tyre pressure & tyre type, but I am sure that has been considered.

i just had another thought. how low is the back? ive lowered my coupe by 2 1/2 - 3 inches all round and i was finding the ride really bad. it felt like it was coming from the front but after checking i realised the back was sitting on the bump-stops, i cut them down and it totally transformed the ride. maby this is your problem

thanks for all the info.will check into all that is said and see what i can come up with.

my stanza struts i got when i got my motor,so dont know how much they lowered. theyre not just cut though.
i havent done anything to the back all standard. so its sitting very old school.
i thought it might just be because its a ute and theyre light in the arse end.

if all else fails will get those padded seats happening.

Hey Datr8d,
Does your front tyres hit the guard at all, as when I put on stanza struts I had 5.5" or maybe 6" width rims on the front. The tyres would hit the guards at the front, but the previous owner of my car cut the hell out of the front springs, plus I am using the original Oil strut inserts (until I fork out some money to get decent ones) and the oil inserts bottom out over the first few bumps then they are right

Cheers
Damo
