pulled the a15 out to put in claires car a couple of weeks ago
after having issues trying to get that going
then i was using my bro in laws mazda gtx and the clutch fork snapped in that

anyways was hoping to get a lot more done on mine this x-mas

but the good news..

today i cut out some radiator shroud and have my new intercooler sitting roughly in location
i also cut out the battery tray
and slotted in the CA18DET, managed to squeeze it in with gearbox attached and without cutting out rad support

for now its just sitting on the x-member nothing hooked up yet
i've come up with an easy surge tank solution, so hopefully not too much work to get going

anyway im really excited now!!!!

took a pic with phone but will post a proper pic hopefully tomorrow or friday night

the CA i have is lagwagon's old one he rebuilt for his wagon, returned to stock everything for now, with stumpy skyline gearbox

Nice job threading the CA in - it's a bit of an angle getting it through the bay wouldn't you say?

the engine is exactly the thickness of a metal ruler off the x-member at the moment... and thats after i made some spacing plates to increase the size of the rubbber mount

intercooler is 400 x 230 x 65, seems a good size to hide behind grill

with an auto tunnel i have two finger widths clearance around the entire box, and didnt even need to cut the stock mounts out the tunnel, using a skyline stumpy box the gear shift comes out exactly where the stock location is........SWEET

can also see maddat 3" dump pipe installed here

ok so i had a new idea for the fuel system, as the coupe tank is so low and there is no firewall to seperate the boot. It is extremely difficult to do a fuel system install anywhere in the rea half of the car.

so i decided to fit it all in the engine bay, hard to make it look pretty in there, but a lot more practicle and safe than other places

here's where im at so far

first i cut the battery tray out as i will get a dry cell batterey which is safe to mount in cabin...boot

i bought the square surge tank and have mounted a vl pump down at the chassis rail, i relocated the low pressure filter to the strut tower with a spare filter clip thing from another shell. then put the high pressure filter where the stock filter goes
there is an electric pump under the back corner of the car (which has been there since i got it) which is convenient for my lift pump

this is the tidiest way i could come up with at this stage, only real hurdle i discovered was with the return line for the surge to fuel tank exiting the bottom of the surge tank. To over come this i have run that rubber line for the return up to a height above the surge tank, therefore it will only return after the surge tank is overfull anyway

still need to add some fastener loops to the hose to prevent rubbing and stuff but im quite happy with what i acheived here

nice fuel tank set up, heaps more practicle and isolated, see what the engenieer says, but i recon easier to work on and identify issues later.

good to hear about tunnel too. heaps easier then new one for sure. id get an auto if i were to do it ever again.

that coupe looks the goods michael, cant wait to see it in the flesh.

and now with the CA in there, the combo youve always wanted! it'll be well worth waiting for i reckon!

keep it up mate!
