GA16 engine vs A series

Saw this engine listed for sale (wishing I'd bought it now). GA16 for sale/sold

The comments from the seller are that "A" series gearbox bolts straight up.

GA16s have 76 bore and 88mm stroke (not so keen on the latter aspect). Apparently around 105HP std.

Does anyone know much about these engines? Wonder if the bellhousing pattern for this example had somehow been modified? (this would be an unusual?) Wonder how far off the head gasket pattern is from an A series? (bore is comparable) Are the heads a good design?

Food for thought.

There have been several threads on GA16DE RWD with an A series tranny.

It appears that the alignment dowels line up and either 3 or 4 of the bolt holes line up. The input shaft may be too long. GA16 starters may be either on the engine side or the tranny side. A flywheel with the ring gear on the engine side will be required for the swap. In stock form up to 115 hp can be had. Performance parts are expensive. Search the web for more info.

Do any of the GA experts know the bore & stroke of the (rare) GA18? I read they have the same stroke as a GA16 (88mm)?

What cars in which countries had GA18s? Thanks, Peter

Nope. It bolts up [edit:]partially but not "straight up".

However, there is a RWD gearbox for the GA engine. See 1200 tech: GA Engine Swap

A GA18 is perenially discussed, but appears to be a global legend, always existing in 'some other country' but never actually seen.
