But are the AUS-built cars as good as the JPN-built cars?

The two Holdens they sell here are a mixed bag.

just spoke with mal about his wagoon. He seems pretty happy with it, in particular the gas system. But the price on the one at the yard is miles over priced, like about 5-6000 over! So i might ring him up and offer about 17k if I want to stir.

Not sure on the holdens you get over your way DD, but the AUS built ones are reasonable cars.

yes I had a small gas problem-- a new program installed under warranty fixed that.
I agree with Jordan-- a VY2 is half the price and probably more bulletproof. Saving 6 or 7000 buys a #OOPS#load of extra petrol and the depreciation would be minimal on a vy

I have mentioned a VY to her, but she wants to buy a newer car than about 2005.
Whilist i do agree about the slowing depreciation of a cheaper car, and that newer cars/more expensive will depreciate faster by compaision to a cheaper car, that is only a issue if you sell the car. We dont plan to sell what ever we buy until its dead, so depreciation is not such as issue. Hec we were planning of keeping the camery for at least another 7-10 years.

We have decided after some advice from Mal (yes we did talk to him!) that the auctions are the way forward. There is one in a fornight when I am home. We will see what happens.
