I started with a new project build, have a look here: http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... hp?topic_id=45104&forum=9

Basically I want to fit a SR20VE to it and a S13 gearbox, but apparently the FWD SR's and the rear wheel drive boxes does not fit together, anybody that can shed some light on this.

The distributor will be removed as I do not want a big ass whole in my fire wall with a crank pick up sensor for the management.

Any other things I should be aware of?

And what is your thoughts regarding this setup.

i think its the vvt-i version of the SR20 and im pretty sure they came out in S15s and i wouldnt attempt this convertion as the harnesses are all linked into each other and are the hardest SR to wire up ,unless you go for and after market computer but i highly dout anyone does a computer to suit vvt-i

but good luck

This motor is Nissan's answer to Variable Valve Timing.

Nissan Ecology Oriented Variable Valve Lift and Timing (commonly known as VVL) is an automobile variable valve timing technology developed by Nissan. VVL varies the timing, duration, and lift of valves by using hydraulic pressure switch between two different sets of camshaft lobes. It functions similarly to Honda's VTEC system.

The SR20VE is the most common engine with NEO VVL. There have been two main versions of this engine. The first version made 187 hp (139 kW) and 145 lb·ft (197 N·m) torque. This engine was used by Nissan from 1997 to 2001. It is found in the Nissan Primera, Nissan Bluebird, and the Nissan Wingroad.

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VVL_engine

The wiring harness is the least of my issues, will be using the harness of a aftermarket management.

Hey racetech,

I want 2 do the same eventually with my bakkie, No the fwd Sr20 sub is diffrent from the Rwd and the Sr20Ve Sub is diffrent as the other two sub's for it has oil channels that feed the cylinderhead for the V-tech. Apparently there is a modification you can make to the Fwd sub to make it fit a rwd gearbox. I would say remove the dizzy and run a Aftermarket fuel system on wasted spark, but as sad as it is, the Sr20Ve has an vtech controller at the back of its cylinder head aswell so you are going 2 have to cut the firewall in anycase. Then to remove the issue with the throttle body pointing to the fire wall as it is an fwd engine ... get a set of ITB's ?

My vote would be for a SR16VE, fantastic engine!
I was tossing up between it and the 4G92 MIVEC engine I eventually ended up buying.

I'd go the MIVEC engine as it's half the price, has the same power (+-1 or 2kw) but with more torque, bolt on the factory turbo manifolds etc from the 4G93 turbo and you can bolt up a RWD box to it.

But then you'd be going Mitsi instead of keeping a Nissan heart in it...

spraycanmansam: the sr16ve is a very nice motor, but very scares in RSA and I want to keep it N/A for racing purposes.

Clive: Ok, so the firewall wil have to be cut, then it will be done, but this motor will go in. Will be using my set of 43mm Throttles on the motor.

Still I'm looking for info on the modifications needed to be done to mate this motor to a RWD box. What is the gearbox numbers of the S13 and so on, what boxes does other members use with the sr20 de and det installs.
