the past owner was trying to rebuild the old hitachi carb, when i got the car i decided to swap the carb to a 32/36 weber. well i did the swap but had some problem connecting the emission stuff, i got the car to start for a few seconds then nothing so i removed some of the emission control stuff and now it wont start at all.?
also whats the best jets for a stock a15 with a 32/36 weber? i will add some picture when i take them later thanks for your help

Changing the jets won't help get the carburetor started.
> now it wont start at all Probably it is either a spark problem, or fuel blockage problem. Do you have the choke plate closed?

i know im getting spark because today i used starter fluid and it started but died right after. and before i used the starter fluid i look down into the carb and it was wet from fuel, could it be to much fuel? (flooded)
also my idle mixture screw is in a spot where i cant get to it, so i have to remove the carb to turn it in or out. so about how many turns should it be out? i got this carb from another car so im going to have to get the right jets sometime so i wanted to know the best jets as a starting piont to tune the carb once i get it running thanks again

no if it was flooded, it wouldn't start with lighter fluid
Why not just put the Hitachi back on and drive it?

well te lst owner gave me the hitachi in pieces and i tried to put it back together but im missing parts.
i think its a vacuum leak(or wrong line rounting) in one of the emission devices?

How long was the car sitting before you tried to fire it up? Is the gas any good? Did you try putting some fuel down the barrel and give the engine a turn?
Try plugging off all of the vacuum inlets on the carb and manifold, disconnect the fuel line, put a little premium unleaded in the primary and fire it up. If it goes, reconnect the fuel line to the carb and put a line directly from the fuel pump into a freshly filled gas can and fire it up again (you will have to primer it up a little, turn the engine for a few moments and than wait about 30 sec). If that works look at your line going back to the tank as a possible problem. Who ever owned it before you probably had the same problem being that he attempted to rebuild the carb. If it fires with a little gas but not from the can, disconnect the line after the fuel pump and securely put it into a glass jar (poke a hole in the metal lid for the line)and see if you get the proper amount of fuel from the pump. If that looks good than I would suspect a problem with you weber.

thanks everyone for your help
well i got the car running it was a vacuum leak, but the idle was rough so i let it warm up and started to mess with the idle mixture screw. then all of the sudden the car shut off and i cant get it running since then. it starts then turns off within a couple of seconds. my idle jets are 50 primary and 47 secondary? where should my idle mixture screw be? thanks again

It's starving, give it some gas. Sounds like you get a little fuel in the bowl start it - suck the bowl dry - then it dies, within a few moments.

I agree with ericsB210, this happened to me when I was starting up my new engine, same Weber. It ran beautiful until it drained the float bowl. It turned out the FPR was faulty and not letting enough fuel through. Once you've started it up and it dies, rip the carb top off and see if there's any fuel left.
I think your main problem is still there; fixing the vac leak probably fixed a different problem created by removing the emission gear. Re idle: You should screw your idle screw all the way in (not too hard or you'll damage it) and then unscrew it 1.5-2 turns; that should get you started. Once it's warmed up screw the idle screw in till it starts to run a little rough (too lean) then unscrew it till it starts to run rough (too rich). In between those two points will be somewhere close to right. Grab a vac gauge if you want to set it up a little better.

ok well the car runs great when the bowl is filled with gas but there is little gas getting to the carb, thinking its the fuel pump i tested it by putting the hose that goes to the filter into a cup of fresh gas and it sucked it up with no problems.
so then thinking it could be the filter i got a new clear filter so i can see if fuel is reaching the filter and VERY little fuel is reaching the filter. so could my fuel lines be clogged? or in the tank? how can i fix this? also i talked to the last owner and he told me the car was sitting for ten years!! thank you You can view topic.
