Sorry Mik, im a bit confused by your post.

I was thinking the small diameter tube would help pick up a little HP lower in the revs but maybe at the cost of HP at the top end.

Im guessing the larger diameter tube/bends would probably have the opposite effect.

I know that Stepped headers have positive effects on NA engines, i.e the dia of the pipes increase at a given length to maintain gas velocities and reduce issues with harmonics and reverse flow. [from memory, I will double check my reference book], but I'm not sure what the effects will be on a boosted engine.

Simon, if you are looking for design inspiration, I think you could draw some inspiration from the Fred Gibson Motorsport Group C EXA. It has rather long runners before entering the turbo. Apparently this was to compensate for the poor performance down low, as you could imagine it was built to run at the higher rev range. I will attach some pics I took of it several years ago
cheers
Benny

Thanks for the pics Benny,

Ive gone with tube slightly smaller than the port. I am a little restricted with design because im using the same post turbo exhaust that i`d already made for the twin cam engine to save some fabrication. The runners are fairly even in length and merge smoothly into the turbo flange, shouldnt be too bad. With the smaller diam tube it might cost me a little at the top end but if it helps the bottom end as much as it hurts the top i think it will be a better package.

I`ll have to get some pics up.

pics of the $100 will be good to, especially of me holding it ;)

small tubes will keep the velocity higher and heat in the gas to the exhaust turbine. as for the inlet manifold, i would have though bigger would be better, from my readings but a series will need low down and midrange for fun.

thanks simon, i dont want the money- just want you to finish it and we can all see how much power it makes, especially on your dyno ;)

Gibson motorsport Exa
330 horsepower (246kw),
front wheel drive and a locked diff
750kg

The question is: How did they get that kind of power from a 1.5 litre four? Oddly enough, from a typographical error. When the homologation papers came out, someone had inadvertently hit the '3' key instead of the '2' in a fortuitous part. Homolgated turbo size now read 'T03' instead of 'T02'. Fred and the team went "you beauty" and a T03 was fitted. Now 1.5 litres and an old school T03, as anyone would guess, add up to a pretty savage power delivery. This thing would literally change lanes at the merest sniff of boost, and it runs a fair bit of boost too - 23psi (1.6bar ) to be exact. :))

I wonder if anyone knows who bought the speedway e15 and a series hybrid?

Darn if only nissan made that little thing RWD!!!

A pic showing the altenator mounts and the ceramic paint on the manifold, I dont think the paint will last too long!

The altenator is a 90amp unit from a VS Commodore, Easy to find a replacement if it dies too.Open in new window

I brazed 4 bits of flat steel to the crank pully to use for the ECU speed referance. Its a bit agricultural but it should work ok. Ive made a little ally bock that will hold the sensor. It will be welded to the timing case between the blt so i can change the belt easily still.
I still have to finish the sump and modify the distributor for the sync signal.

Can i have a guess of the HP too?
