I am using 1200 rails with some additional flat bar lengths welded to the top of the rails to extend out to reach the bolt holes under the seat which are a little farther spread than the stock hole locations. Yet to put it all together though.






The 1200 rails bolt from the ends of the car inward so parallel to the transmission tunnel where as the bolts in the 1000 (in the 2dr sedan) bolt from the top down into the floor (yikes!). I am confident it is just a matter of drilling new holes into the 1200 rails to bolt through to the framework. If I can I'll also put the other bolts through.

Then with the additional extension plates welded to the rails the seat will be able to be bolted on. I'm also leaving the ends of the 1200 rails in place so they actually fold over the framework. I'm not too keen on having the bolts (holding the seat down) running perpendicular to the direction of travel/driving, I reckon the seat will come right off with a good jolt.

Obviously it'd make things difficult for people to get into the back but I figured Cobra Classics do that anyway. For the time being this'll be how I'm doing it.

As my sealts are ratsh*t, interested in what the differences in price/safey/comfort of a set of cobra classic's VS getting the originals re-upholstered. cheers guys.

They are a good looking seat though. They look right and fit perfect.

Racing seats are a bit "try-hard" for my liking. Unless of course it is a racing car.

The CC's just look like comfortable bucket seats.

I wouldn't expect to see much change from $1200 to upholster the three seats. Not sure though.

Yeh I think those classics look great even with the headrest, you don't want a seat that will dominate the interior of the car, and something that will keep to its era, although with the safest option for the belts, be mounted somewhere where the rear seats are, like a harness type set up so maybe race seats would accommodate this better, not that I would go this far... I just think those b pillars are pretty damn slender wherever you mount them.


Thanks for that info on the rails Chris, i must have totally missed this whole page cos I was only reminded of it lookin at ZigZags seat thread, so basically you just bridged the mounts with 1200 rails?

I just used 1200 rails with a couple of tabs welded to narrow the bolt hole arrangement.

They're a good seat.

If you get a set I can send you over the dimensions or even copy my set of rails onto your.

I'm planning on redoing mine when I get some spare rails so I can put the lever to on the inside (between the legs and under the seat) at the moment the levers are on the outside and had to be bent a little to get them to fit in the space between rail and outer sill of the car.





EDIT: Sorry in the previous post I said I had extended the bolt holes outward, I meant the opposite!

Yeah I've been meaning to pack the back a little to bring them up a bit, but when you sit in them, it's pretty damn obvious that the head rests aren't headrest s at all......they're meant to stop your head flipping back and snapping your neck in a crash. If you sit in them and actually put your head against the headrest you're basically looking at the roof!

Fantastic seats though, very very comfortable.
