i was pondering again does anyone run nos in their datsuns? what extra omff does it give?, is it worth the money?, and what had to be done to the engine to handle the nos?

i'm really thinking about it, let me know what you guys think?

I'm thinking about NOS when my rebuild is finished - but I can only use it at the drags down here.

You aren't even allowed to have it set up in your car on the street ( even if it's disconnected).



Many people have watched The Fast & The Furious too many times and have some misconceptions about nitrous

Facts are: When it's injected into the inlet manifold it -

1. Lowers the engine intake temperature providing a dense inlet charge.

2. Increases the oxygen content of the inlet charge.

3. Increases the rate at which combustion occurs.

Main things to watch when fitting NOS are to pay particular attention to : Fuel pressure delivery and Ignition timing. Usually the timing should be retarded 4 - 8 degrees - also watch the temperature of the NOS bottle. Also higher octane fuel would be beneficial and spark plugs may have to be a couple of ranges colder than normal.

For small NOS applications engine mods would be limited however if you wanted a huge increase in power using NOS : Ditch the cast pistons, use high quality head studs, upgrade the ignition system.

As for power gains it depends on your budget and application but anywhere from 10 - 80 HP increase or there abouts.

yer i was running a 150 hp kit into my stock 1.8l corolla with no worries. from my experience anything over 100hp hit tends to just brake traction with an open diff. even with 205s on it in fourth gear. Secondhand u can pick a complete kit up for around 800 dollars or new around 1500 to 2000 for a good setup. Make sure you get a bottle with the kit as they are nearly 500 bucks for a medium size 10 pounder. Also the bottle dosnt last long so use it sparingly as nos aint cheap. personally id only use it for competion work and go a boosted setup for the street.

just make sure you dont cause danger to your inlet manifold, causing a square plate to drop out of your floor pan.

The laptop sitting next to you is supposed to prevent manifold DANGER. But never use NOs until you hit about 8th gear. I think thats how they did it in the fast and the furious.

Also, dont forget about the full MOTEC exhaust!

But yeah I agree with simmodat1200 - those 12 speed gear boxes must be the main cause of having " fried " piston rings.
