Not sure why you guys are so possessed by the all mighty oval port manifolds. The round cross flow ones are f-in' sweet and WILL pump hard when you get them with the right combination.

Scully, if you ever want to sell that manifold and linkages in favor of buying something else I'll buy it off you. I'll throw it on my engine with a fat 45 Weber, and wring the hell out of the engine and send you a video of it haulin' ass and rippin' rubber

I think that manifold reduced the value of the Weber (which also needs a re-build). It's okay but I'm not sure that it's a bargain, probably on par looking at it's condition. I suppose pulling it apart and looking at how neat the manifold is on the inside will be the decider.

i only think wurzel wants the oval as its a stright bolt on- no mucking around with different set ups.

I dont doubt you would send me that vid Chris ;). Just seems either way is going to be more involved than previously thought...and the fact there's nothing you can buy to have this setup on an oval port...you'll be the first offered Chris...although thought you were broke too?

I'm always broke, that's why I've been trying to sell things off. I have my GX head on eBay that I'm hoping will sell well (good-bye all of my horsepower ).

Anywho regarding oval port manifolds, they do come up but you have to search for a while. Get the round port setup going then simply upgrade. That's the best way to do it with datto's always have a setup that runs and then buy then next before you sell the old. Nothing worse than a Datto that doesn't run (which is why you see so many unfinished projects for sale) as all the fun and enjoyment is driving the bloody things.

my setup:

its not dellorto though, its a weber dcof 32. but not using the crossflow manifold, just cut and paste from stock manifold. i reckon the exhaust rhythm is weird, almost boxer engine like no matter how hard i tune the mixture.. btw, its an a12a bottom with a H89...

Good job on the converted manifold bakat.

The reason I loathe round port heads is simple, look how small the ports are, you're missing out on ??% volume compared to an oval port head. In my experience I think they're fine when you drive them to 3000rpm but after that they're restrictive.

I was having a look on the net about what sort of angles you can run a sidedraft on and one answer was about 7degress off parallel, I think they should be on a slight angle into the ports and have the manifold sit higher to help shoot the mixture in there.

Bakat great engineering :)
Id guess anyone could easily just tilt the plate that Bakat
has made to the angle required. Bakat did you isolate the
flow to each throat?
Do you mean boxer sound with poor response?
I think your chokes are 32 but the carbie is a 40 dcoe no?

thx D and littledarkone. nah the carb is not the mighty dcoe, but puny dcof 32... dunno what the choke size is... going to check it soon...

yeah boxer engine sound, and the response is lesser than using the stock carb... further research on the net, i found that the carb is originally from the fiat 500 abarth, i think those 32 are pretty small... the flow is separated, a barrel feeds the cylinder 1 and 2, and another feeds the cylinder 3 and 4... i think im going to modify the manifold so that both barrel is connected so that the pulsing is becoming lesser apparent... and then i need to tilt the manifold, 5 or 7 degree, and make a bakelite plate to isolate the carb from the manifold. after prolonged usage, the manifold tends to get hot, does hot carb works properly?

Just some unusual manifold options Ive never imagined could look good but do :)
Maybe it inspires someone on here to great things!
The single one below is awesome leaving clearance galore and neat filter setup choices.

The last two are great for 36mm downdraft IDF setups using a longer than stock filer
housing that could also look pretty oldskool.
