I know mate that it'll be a simple thing, but that I'll have to cash in 3 days annual leave to bring it down to you, (1 to bring it, two for you to fix it and late night home), it's still running, and in the process of elimination I'm buying the bits for the a14 I'll get you to build me.

ok
That sounds like fun, I'll do the drive, it would be good to have a trusted opinion on it all.
(my best mates a dato nut, hence the weber, disk brake front end, and good knows what else he's given me and the dual brake booster set-up he got me to buy)
- although I must say I now realise what it was that I gave his son - a 200b white with blue gt type racing body stripes, factory aircon, auto, in not mint but near to it condition.
So I'll have to plan a way of visiting hastings - and not on the back of a flat bed :)

Butterfly pins???
Is that a Holley 180 or Weber ADM equivalent?
For a full blown recondition and jets and dyno session prepare to part with $1000.00.
Sorry but to put it bluntly, if you completely rebuild a carb and put it on an old engine (or one that isn't fresh for that matter) and then get it dynoed is an absolute contradiction of the apparent budget-driven theme that has come to light having read this thread. So no, it isn't recommended. If you do go this way you're pissing in the wind.
And in all honesty getting given a carb that needs a rebuild isn't that great a gift unless it will be sacrificed to get another in functioning order.
Your most economical way to get things going is to:
1. Decide on a WORKING carb/carbs.
2. Fit them to the motor you currently have and get them (and the engine) running as best you can.
3. Rebuild the motor or whatever motor you have on side and then install the carbs/carb on that one.
4. Do some further fine-tuning that will reduce your dyno-time and here by dramaticallly reduce the dyno costs. You have time on your side so keep an eye out for jets, nozzles and chokes that are going for cheap. You will need these in the dyno session, and if you don;t have them to fit they will use theirs and charge you hard for them.
5. Take it into a good tuner and ask for the basic run and agree on how many additional hours you'd like to run if the carb is not tuned and completed within that initial session (and if this is the case with a single rebuilt carb, you've probably found that the tuner/carb rebuild isn't that good) or if you feel you'd like to run a few more sessions to see what power you can find by adjusting different settings.
To give you an idea on price, here is the best one I could get (so far);
To get my carbs at balance and base-line jet calibration and idle mixture screw setting is $300.00
Any additional parts required at cost.
After that they begin looking at a full session with printouts and fine tuning of timing and carburettor jetting around about $100 and hour after that plus parts.
Don't waste anymore time, take on tommo's offer of advice and assistance and hurry yourself back into a working, functioning Datsun (which should be enjoyable not wrought with problems and variables).

It's a holley -
I originally posted because I wanted advice on all the mechanics that the ppl on the forum used.
Then I asked about who you would take a carby to to be rebuilt and if it was warranted to get a dyno whatever to suit the jets or something.
So basically I got a pm and Tommo for mech's choice and quite an interesting response on the carby question.
I do realise that it'll cost 300 or so for the carby rebuild, and seeing as it's a stock a12 there's not much prob's with jet sizing, but all I wanted to know was who you would send your carbies to for rebuild's. ie a list of ppl :)
this isnt a race or even street motor - just stock, and like Tommo said it's a simple thing.
Anyhow I'll be seeing Tommo when I can take the time off work, but in the meantime I'll let you know how it works out, and maybe someone else that can't travel to hastings for repairs can get some advice too :)
