Hi I haven't written for a while, been overseas... I am pregnant and do not want to sell my Datsun 1200 ute , but I am pretty sure I can not have a baby in the front , is this right? Any ideas of other type of Datsun's that can have babies safely in them? .. just cause i am having a baby doesn't mean I have to give up Datuns......
thanks xxx max

Get a 1200 sedan, wagon or coupe Sedan is the easier choice as they have a mount you can use for the baby capsule the other 2 although they have rear seats need a bar fitted by an approved fitter with a mount on it. Unless you can get a capsule that works just with a seatbelt but cant say I noticed them when I was in the market.

from the rta website, these laws are pretty much blanket through all states but WA.

"All children under seven years of age must be secured in a child restraint or booster seat when traveling in a vehicle. The new child restraint laws in NSW are based on national model legislation.
Babies up to six months of age must be restrained in a rearward facing restraint.
Children from six months to under four years of age must be restrained in a rearward facing or forward facing restraint. Children under four years of age must not be in the front row of a vehicle with two or more rows."

as long as you have a restraint point to clip the baby seat too there shouldnt be a problem.(a baby seat generally needs a seatbelt threaded through it and a strap that clips to the restraint point fitted in your car.
there are also different rules pertaining to different models of car seat so do your research and buy something to suit your needs.
also remember that a rearward facing seat cannot be used in the front seat of a car with passenger airbag.

dont know why you need a bar installed in a sedan, the mounting points are already there, or at least in mine they are.

in a ute you can use a capsule or seat but seriously, i wouldnt consider it. i doubt a rear facing capsule would fit anyway.

safetys sake, i wouldnt carry infants in a 1200 ute, they dont hold up that well a pillar wise in a serious crash, shame max with such a nice ute too.

ill second that, they take up a bit of room, the front passenger seat had to go forward in my girlfriends car while we are using the rear facing seat.
ill also second if it did fit in a 1200 ute, i personally wouldnt put my boy in there till he is a bit older.

Hello!!!! this is a childs life you are talking about , have look at crash test on cars of this era and I would hope you'll change your mind,I spend alot of my day building cars and making then structurally sound ,datsuns are some of the lest impact sound cars I've worked on.I've 5 children and on more than occasion had to drive a safe car that accommodated the kids and not make me feel good for what i'm driving.

I'm just now letting my 7yr old ride with me. I pick her up from school and take the little residential streets home.
The kids and wife usually drive around in a more substantial vehicle.

This is why... it happened to me in 2002.

People have gotten soft.
When I was a kiddie, (A long time ago)I used to sit on mums lap, and no-one wore seat belts. If we had crashed, I would have been the airbag for my mum. lol

How does that rule apply to kids in a car with no factory rear seatbelts? I own 7 cars, and 4 of them aren't required to have rear seatbelts by law.
