I believe that they have come up with a way of bringing batteries up to charge in seconds, so in the future it should be no different than filling up with gas just faster.

It would be interesting to see if the owner of 'White Zombie' will share the information that went into making his custom electric motor - I can only ask :D

He does come on here from time to time...last time was to inform us hes upgrading to Lithium Polymer batteries.
Would be great to see/hear more of him!
Now I can only speak from RC experience but the difference in power these things can make over any other kind of cell is HUGE.

While all your points are valid calls Dodgeman, I'd be interested to see the statistics of how many cars travel how far with how many people each day.
Perhaps it is a majority of car owners that only travel short distances every day to school, work or the shops, mostly with sole occupants. I live in the inner city and that's pretty much what I see, especially with the Bunnings/Coles mega-structures that conveniently pop up to feed a locality once it reaches a certain population.
It seems people have to travel less than ever in this sense.

What I'm saying is there are an awful lot of people who, even given such short comings of electric cars, would have all their daily needs fulfilled by them.

Generally speaking, a fast charge involves fairly high voltages & even higher current flows which produces a great deal of heat in the battery.

If the heat level rises too high, damage to the battery will result & high capacity batteries will suck up a lot of current if the charge was very low to begin with.

I had not heard of these 'quick charge' batteries before & I would imagine that they would show up in smaller items, like power tools, before they become available to the automotive market & I remain sceptical untill I see one in the flesh.

I look forward to seeing a practical, affordable & effective electric car but unfortunately, up untill now at least, they have remained little more than a novelty.

P.S. Henry Ford purchased a total of four Detroit Electric cars over the years for his wife Clara, each one replacing its predecessor.
The last one survives in the Henry Ford museum in the US.

Apparently Clara wasn't too fussed with the infernal combustion engined products that her husband produced.

Henry was a genius with his ideas, especially his all hemp car
so imagine his wife listening to his constant bombardment on auto
technology!
She would learn well that Henry wanted wanted electric cars or clean
technology but the Rockerfellers made sure oil was the fuel.
