It has been done, and it bolts to the a series box nearly perfectly. I believe even the dowels line up.

A few bolts dont line up, but its not an issue.

the oil cooler on the side and the distributer are the biggest hurdles, but not impossible.

The ga16 has the same bolt up pattern as the E series
and a much better proposition for higher power.
There is also a 1.8 litre version of the ga16 called
the cg18 I think or something and its just a longer
stroke and slightly bigger bore version of the GA.
Not sure about the bolt up pattern though.

E-series SOHC was superseded by the GA-series DOHC.

E15ET: 115 HP Turbo
GA16DE: 115 HP NA

Plus there are RWD transmission for the GA16DE, not that it matter much.

Well well. for the later GA16 uses the same bolt pattern as the E16, which is almost the same as the a15 bolt pattern.

We know an a15 fits in a thou.
we know an e15 fits in a thou.
Does the GA16 fit in a thou.

as for the rwd tranny for the GA16de, it appears that it was the Nissan Serena minivan that used a rwd tranny, but only a few came with the GA16. Most can with the SR20. Dont know if they are available in Australia. I would also guess that they use external linkages for a column shift setup like most vans have, so not much good in a sedan anyways.

The Toyota T50 box with bellhousing should work well enough to resolve the gearbox issues if a rwd box from the serena is not available of wont fit into a thou.

Well ive just spoken with my rally mate, and he has a complete e16 sitting at his house, so thats going to be pilfered soon, if for nothing else other than mucking about with.

Now to find a cheap GA16 for playing...

The good GA16DE (115HP) is in the 1995-1999 B14 and N15.
The GA18 appears to be an urban legend
Latest rumour is that a GA20DE (DOHC) was sold in NZ.

hmmm if the GA16de fits in the thou engine bay, there could be a whole swag of instant death on the roads very soon.

This is definatly now in the investigation list. will be ringing a few wreckers around on Monday to find out if its affordable.

A GA16de couldnt be too expensive really...
