I just pulled the carby off and found that the not so old manifold/carby gasket is rooted and I think there is a partial blockage in the pump circuit, also found a lump of crap in one emulsion tube, So it looks like a combination of problems. Pic:

Yeah that doesn't look good!

All those problems certainly aren't going to help!
You are getting to the bottom of it slowly but surely..

Are you using that ethanol blend hippie crap fuel that all the service stations seem to be replacing regular with? Do you buy from an independent station or from Shell/BP/Caltex?

Apparently it likes eating plastic fuel tanks and fuel lines so wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with all your rubber seals and such going kaput on you.

Just running BP 98 fuel, maybe a bad batch of Redline gaskets?

I doubt it would ever be ethanol... ethanol is actualy quite safe, methanol is the bad one... I have ran Datsuns on neat ethanol for ages without problems

you got kids levey- not the first time your rubber broke

ethanol not recomended for some carby cars and seals in aus- its car degrade and eat away OLD/PERISHED hoses and dislodge chunks of the rubber into the carb- same reason they dont recomend it for aircraft currently.

Check the specs on BP 98- might be ethanol enriched or a detergent they use to boost it to 98 RON. in vic- mobil is made at the same plant (or it was until recently).

Your engine has eaten the rubber seals. Probably old softmounts that were re-installed and/or overtightened causing them to disintegrate. Might want to check the internals.

This was probably the cause of all your carby problems as those corresponding cylinders would have been running lean, causing poor performance.

Redline gear isn't the quality you think it is. Those soft mounts aren't a reputed part, a friend has these fitted and the motor literally sucked the rubber bits in same situation really but they were brand new, literally stripped the rubber off.

Get some of the Bpro phenolic ones, these are great insulators and work very well compared the the redline ones. Or make your own out of some old conveyor belt to keep you going.

As for the e85 (ethanol 85%) corrosive factor.....absolute myth.

Might call uncle Mike for some Bpro gaskets as the Redlines were not that old, thanks Chris. I'll see how it goes from there.

those seals arent meant to be done up super tight as they are meant to stop all the harsh vibrations which kills your floats and makes them wader around, most people always think that tighter is better but not the case here. they are merely there to seal but give them a little movement without the harsh vibrations of a motor

Yeah I know, I didn't fit them but they must be pretty crappy rubber on the Redline parts.
