I've been restoring my ute for a fair while, and i've just finished the panel works and paint. I really want to get bigger wheels, mostly to complete the look- but how big is too big? The ute is currently sitting on 14inch wheels but I remember that they used to scrub when i turned into a corner- untill i got lower profile tyres. So I figured that was as big as I could go...

But this morning, I drove past a tyre shop and saw a 1200 ute sitting on 17inch wheels as their display/work vehicle! how the hell did they do that?

Do i even need bigger wheels really?

15's fit easily with stanza struts u just gotta massage the inside wheel arches abit and maybe roll the front of ur guards, u can do it good enough with a hacksaw cut and a pair of pliers to rol it up.

Personally, I think 17's are too big and look a bit silly.

Check out this ute lowered on 15's...looks SWEET as, I reckon...

B120dat's ute

And here's my old one when I was trying 16's on. This is about as big as I would want to go.

Anyway, hope that gave ya an idea of sizes

Its all a matter of personal preference and what you are using your vehicle for.
I think 15's are more than enough (Thats what I've got).Mine are only 6.5 wide with 195x50's.
You have to get the ride height to suit the wheels as well or else it looks plain stupid.
I'm only 80per cent happy with my ride height at the moment - but then again it will be a daily driver.

Keep in mind that with the cars only having 12" wheels as standard by putting 15" or 16" wheels on you are increasing the unsprung weight by a large amount which won't help the handling at all.
I currently have R31 14" by 5.5" steel wheels with 175/60 Falken Azenis Real Sports tyres and my ute handles beautifully. Once the CA conversion is completed I will go up to 195/60 R14 or 195/50 R15 tyres. You will regret it if you overtyre yor car.

sounds like maybe 15's are the way to go... Ive already lipped all the gaurds when bought new panels so i guess they should fit pretty easy with a low enough profile. The other thing i noticed though- on the front gaurds (before i changed them) part of the panel, closest to the tyre from the front was cut off... On the new panels they go in allot further, I wonder if that will affect things?

all u have to do, if u get 15's is where the guard comes down and flattens off u put a hacksaw cut in the back and roll both the vertical and horizontal part ull understand when u get in and have a look. not very hard at all, u could cut it the same as ur old guards but that would be overkill as i did as i said at the top to mine and they dont rub at all.
