ok, guess i,m having probs loading pics up. My next hurdle is the second mask, what i,m worried about is lifting the new green paint when pulling the masking tape off. So my thoughts sre not to cut and buff the green and use some non sticky tape, should I use the same tape again but wider, that 6mm tape was really good....

if its sanded proply underneth it wont pull the paint of and if it does u will have to start again any way as the paint will fall off as u drive along.

when you say cut & buff does that mean you've already cleared the car? If so you can scuff the clear with a gray scotch bright pad (3M), mask you're stripes & spray the base then reclear all over again. Be sure to wax & grease remove after taping for the stripes & before spraying the next coats of clear.

If your talking about cutting & buffing the base, thats not going to do you any favors. Dont sand base - unless to remove runs like you have, sand those out with p500 & re-base, you can spot that in w/an air brush if you have one then its a much smaller task.

The advantage to clearing the base then striping is the 2 colors wont blend & if you have problems you can sand them out of the clear w/o sanding into the other color...hopefully.

Are you catalyzing the base (adding hardener to the base - 1 oz. per qt. of base & reducer total) ck. tech sheet of paint prior to doing so but should be OK.

I hope your wearing gloves & not touching the base w/bare fingers.

So far I,ve only have put down the first colour and its still off the gun, I,m thinking now that a wont do a clear coat. My thoughts as far as masking for the second coat that its best to do the second mask using the least sticky masking tape I can find and to keep the first colour off the gun. By cut and buff I mean compound cutting and wax polish........i,ve cut and buffed a small section and its going to look good....megga shiny.

Photo shop would be great thanks......yep can see your point about the grey. If you look at the last two pics, this is at the prep work stage, i,m painting green over green so the prep work thats still showing in the top pic is where the black will be, as the origal colour was green its a bit hard to see at this point what will be what. The black strips will run over the bonnett, roof, boot and down the back of the beast. If you also look at the first pic you can see grey on the sil and top of the door shuts, these areas will also be black along with the top of the door frame........

ok im getting it now, if it was me doing it i would have painted it in a clear over base. painted the whole car green, let that dry for a bit, mask up for the black and hit the black up then unmask, tack cloth, hit the whole thing with clear.

i want to do a 2 tone paint job now lol.
