Hi all.
If there is anyone who knows how to fit a oil temp gauge and sensor, please feel free to respond to this message.
I want to fit a oil temp guage to my datsun.
My problem is with the engine.
Where and how do I fit the sensor to the engine?
What sensor can I use for this?
Any info is appreciated....

I used a mechanical gauge in the old days. A tee-fitting is fitted where the oil sensor is, then a plastic line run into the car to the oil gauge.

Firstly youll need to get a guage , most auto prts retailers should sell these. Be sure to get one that goes above 120C,awater temp guage wont have a high enough scale. Mount the guage werever you want it ,then
either driil and tap you sump bung or if its off braze a bsoss to the sump to screw the sender into. The guage should iclude the sender and a wiring diagram.
Childs play.

I am going to the shop that sells these kind of gauges today.
I don't know if they have a sensor with it.
If it does'nt contain a sensor what then?
Also, as far as I know they are electrical gauges not mechanical. My main concern is just the sensor.
The gauge and wiring I can sort out.
Where I must fit the sensor is my concern.

You have to weld/braze a bung on the oil pan, below the oil level. If you have an oil cooler, you can mount a sensor inline with one of the hoses.
If you're desparate or if this is temporary, i guess you can drill and tap a spare oil pan drain plug.
There are electric and mechanical temp gauges available.
ps- I think dd is refering to an oil pressure gauge.

oops, I was refering to an oil pressure gauge. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi all
I got an idea last night when I was thinking on how to install a oil temp gauge.
I would just like to ask anyone of you to please tell me if this will work or not.
I am thinking of making a T-pipe at a engineering shop to be screwed in where you put in the oil pressure sensor into the engine block.
one end of the T you then screw in the oil pressure sensor and the other one you screw in the oil temp sensor.
Of course the shop must make the groves correct as the groves will be different on each end of the T.One end into the engine block, other end for the pressure sensor and the other for the temp sensor.
Will it work or will it not.

yeah no problems doing that, you shouldnt need a custom made one as i got plently of brass fittings from "fluid transfer" type places, including t-pieces and stuff that would do the job (you can also buy adaptors to change the thread at either end)

i had a feed for the turbo and the oil pressure sender coming off the t-piece on my setup

i dont know if it was mentioned but you should be able to get electical gauges (with appropriate senders) which use electic current through a wire between the sender in the t-piece and the gauges rather than having an oil line running into the car, much like the factory fitted water temprature gauge

It will not work properly.
Yes there will be oil in the 'T', and it will be pressurized but you will only measure the temp of the oil in the 'T'. There is no oil flowing past the sensor.
The T is great for adding a pressure gauge and keeping the stock pressure switch.
