So my thermostat appears to be failing, engine is running really hot, thermo fan running the whole time.

Anyone know where i might be able to get a new thermostat from?
i'm running an a14, but pretty sure they are the same for a12 also.

any help would be great,
thanks

Do not use a 160 degree thermostat in a datsun way too cold Nissan engines are designed to run optimally at 190 degrees that is the temp at which all the engine components match optimally.
Pistons are what they call Cam ground ie they are wider on the thrust faces and narrower around the piston pin area, when the extra metal in the area of the piston pin expands with heat then the piston ends up being equally sized on all axis when measured.this sort of engineering thinking prevails in all engine component design areas, are you an engineer?
Either too hot which causes seizure or too cold which means running at excess clearance causing undue wear are not good.
Manufacturers test and specify what temp thermostat to run and they know more about their product than we do,So think before you act or post information others may rely on.

Thank god there are a few members with a functioning brain on this forum.

Why do the manufacturers specify thermostats of a specific value?
If you don't know the answer, then stick rigidly to manufacturers specs because people far smarter than most of us put together have designed & tested their products & know what works best.

If your engine runs hot with the standard 180 degree thermostat then you have a cooling system problem.
Fix it, don't mask it with a bodge such as a colder 'stat.

Sometimes manufacturers spec a higher temp for cold areas, like Siberia, or colder temp 'stats for hot areas, like the Gobi desert but here in Australia with it's relatively narrow band of temperatures it's rare to find a legitimate excuse to mess with the factory spec.

I replaced it with a standard 180 degree.
Is running as normal now, no issue with cooling.
