What is it with american car design?

No station wagons/estates, just massive SUV's.
No mid sized utes, just massive trucks.

And now they come up with a hot wheels!

The big trouble with this thing will be cost. Amercans pay next to nothing for their massive SUV/Pickups so this thing would have to be significantly cheaper and more efficient for anyone to even consider purchasing one. Chances are it will never fly.

I dont know about that, lots of people here buy trucks & SUV's that cost well over $25 - $30K. Maybe in AU thats cheap?? Cheap over here is a Chev Aveo 8K-ish (Suzuki I think), saw a KIA Soul advertised recently for 10K.

I'd be ecstatic if I could buy half the stuff available elsewhere in the world but not here, there's are tons of small & midsized turbo diesel's everywhere but here. Maybe one day there'll be competitive pressure with smaller ute's. Hell, we used to have all the small trucks then they got supersized, look at the Nissan Titan vs. my 84 King Cab.

with the choices in old cars, hey even a 72+ chev monza with the works
can be had for very little and then you could fit a small dont in
it with boost. Id rather an all alloy v8 though with LPG.

5k for a ready to drag race car!!! youd have change left over to get it back on the road
with your choice of interior, bonnet and injection system
