The Datsun 120Y was released in Australia in '73 [?] as the 1974 "model" I believe it was imported & it used the Japanese H150 diferential. In '76 the 120Y was made here with a great deal of local componentry, including the front suspension, the brake system & the Borg Warner rear axle assembly. This was used up to the end of 120Y production.

Just to make sure i got it right, a ratio of, lets say 3 to 1, is a lot "steeper" than 10 to 1. Ummmmm, ..right?

dunno about the stocky (no compliance plate) but the Parts car has a april may or june (can't remember off my head - I think June) '74 compliance plate and is way better than my farm hack it only has a 50 cent hole in the left sill, and another where the heater used to be! but I've basically stripped it to a bare shell (I'd like to put 180B mechanicals in it, but am a LITTLE scared of the resulting power to weight ratio as thrashing around on a farm in an L18 powered 120Y could be fun...)any way back to what I was saying before, "The Defect has a March '77 compliance plate so Dattoman Your theory may be true, I'll have to check out the parts car, because I stripped it out I have ripped out most of the front suspension (only the drivers side strut and radius rod remains - I told you I stripped it out ) because it doesn't have front wheels i can't check if it has a H150 or a BW diff, I'm 75% sure it's a BW diff though! I even have a CIG "improved" BW 120Y diff stored away

No, that'd be the opposite of what I wrote.

Maybe if you thought of it this way... if you were to go up a really steep hill in a mountain bike would you want to use 1st gear or 18? 1st gear would be a numerically higher, greater mechanical advantage, 'steeper' gear.

unless the a-15 is making big power (im pressuming not) just use another stock diff from a 120y, they are a tuff diff and you have to be doing something stupid (read: roll back burnouts) to break one, or just unlucky
