Getting back towards the topic at hand, I think that one very positive aspect over looked so far with doing a bike engine conversion is not only do you get a very nice engine with a broad power band (assuming the busa), a major weight loss, but you also get a very good fast shifting close ratio transmission.
The sequential close ratio tranny is one of the major draws for me. Having got to spend some time in my brothers race car with the busa 1300 for power and an electric shifter things just don't get any better. His race car is a busa powered F500 used for autocross. For those of you not familiar with the F500, it is a low cost formula car that was originally powered by a 500CC 2 stroke snow mobile engine. Weight is 900# (408KG) including the driver and has 154WHP. The car is set up with paddle shifters and the upshifts are 80ms. That's .08 seconds per shift. The only trannys that come close to the busa tranny are the custom built by the late Dan Hall that puts the internals of a Hewland Mk9 in a Datsun 60 series box. One of these will set you back about the same price as a complete busa setup.

Gary motorcycle gearboxes are soooooooo much better than the typical automotive unit. I don't know how many times I've commented on who thought a H-pattern gearbox was the thing.............................bikes have used sequential shifting for , oh about forever.
In the D-sports racer I left foot braked and simply went up and down through without using the clutch, same as I do on a bike. The thought of making a Datsun 1200 shifter Kart is appealing...................now if only I could find a stash of TZ750 engines I could also get myself away from using these horribly heavy slow revving four strokes. :) Off Topic: are you running A or B Mod?? The 2-stroke engines can be brought up to just over 100 HP, but I'm thinking even "if" the Busa engined weighed more the 50 or so horsepower would be well worth it. Tom

Yep, I agree with you on the bike shifters. I've been hooked on the sequential shifters ever since purchasing a '68 Bultaco Matador 250 back in high school. Had way too much fun in the dirt. A stash of TZ750's would be lots of fun (and noise). Back in the '70s I had a guy pass me on the freeway who was riding a RD400 with open pipes at full power. That rated as one of the loudest things I've ever heard.
We are running the car in A-MOD without wings. Wings are planned for the future and is the only way to compete in the class. Spent a lot of time looking over and talking to the owners of the new Vancouver Special at our first practice event last year. 2 of the A-MOD cars from Vancouver BC. came down and gave us a treat of seeing the cars in action. I think I remember one of the builders talking of 650# of down force at 60 miles per hour. Of course the down side is with 250HP the top speed of the car was just over 70mph... Brian's car is quite entertaining. There is no room for a clutch pedal in the foot box. We have a stub of bike handle bar welded to the outside of the cockpit by the steering wheel. You use the clutch for moving around in the pits and launching. Once under way all shifting is done without the clutch using the electric paddles. One of our events has an 1/8 mile drag race. We were doing low 7's. It's quite a kick to launch in 1st and run through the gears up to 5th gear in just over 7 seconds without ever lifting the throttle... I like to think of his car as a 1300CC shifter cart...

I did mention "sequential" as a bonus but didnt know they where
as strong as say an auto box like a 60 series datsun 5 speed. In fact they must be able to take engine revs past 12000rpm and most gearbox will self destruct changing gears up there, not to mention the clutch and flywheels would be in your pedals. Now for me its to find and affordable 1-1.3 litre motorbike engine with 5 speed sequential that is strong enough for 500kg and be able to be supercharged if only 8 valve or less than 105hp.

gsx1400 engine
gsx1400 engine gsx1400 engine gsx1400 engine gsx1400 engine dare i say it again? great engine as-is. i turbo'd mine and it went like a train. most/all bike transmissions will need to have the gears back-cut, clutch upgraded, and depending on your tastes have the back-torque-limiter removed.

Maxton Mile videos are good fun!!!
Simon just wondering Im looking at Kawa Zx12R heads which are 83mm bores and wondering if I could perhaps put one onto a ca18de bottom end with similar mods to what you have done if the bores and head studs are a close match. Its a tough call but just for conversation sake. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kawasa ... lesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories here are the gaskets to compare for starters, some head pics and piston block sleeves

I took the the A series gasket to the bike wreckers to overlay with the bike heads. If it`s something you are wanting to do, take the CA gasket to Vic Motorcycle Wreckers. They are fairly helpful.
Their prices aren`t cheap but they have good stock. The CA is already DOHC, surely they dont flow too bad? I would think if you spent the money on a CA head that you would have to spend on a conversion, you would be miles ahead staying with the CA head. You can view topic.
