with copper gaskets you need to get the head and the block o-ringed.
copper gaskets are the best for sealing the combustion chamber but are not know to be the best for sealing water and oil.

one of my friends runs an ACL shim and its handled boost good. with these you need to spray the top of the block with ACL sealer Hylamar ( someone said the right spelling in a previous thread) . this is good for sealing the shim to the castiron of the block but its no good for sealing to the aluminium of the head, so you have to use a head gasket ontop of the shim.

Back when i got Jeff Taylor to do all my machineing we thought about using the A14 head ( you can see a big difference in the combustion chamer size). But we didn't come across an a14 head untill all the machining was done to my a15 head so we just went with the a15 one. To drop my comp we machined the dish in the a15 pistons so the dish was centred not offset.
From memory we mesured comp ratio to be somewhere round 7.? to 1 ( it been so long i forget.) to seal the head i am going to run a standard head gasket but i have o-ringed the block so it bites into the head gasket.

Now all i gotta do is hurry up and finish the body so i can put my engine together and run it.

bugger the copper then, need to do that when rebuilding engine

got any idea of the price of the shim,

and also how was it with that c/r, for a car that is %95 road car and 5% circuit and track
i mean would it shiet ya sideways driving it to uni everyday in heavy traffic for an hour

price for shim i dont know, i will see him in a few days so i can find out then, if you cant wait just ring autoone or any parts shop that sell ACL and they will let you know. His c/r i dont know either, from memory its a 1.2 or 1.5 mm shim. i will find this out also.
He drives his 1.5hours a day to work and back and he has no worries. for the last year he has only run upto 6 psi boost with just a standard carbie with upsized jets as his sealed for boost carbie had problems and we have been to busy to do a new one. all this time he drives through heavy traffic and the car is pleasant to drive.

I am using a stock Datsun (no aftermarket ####) headgasket and I have heard that it copes for boost levels over 14psi.....

just thought of question 347

i was thinking of only using 10psi pressure at most becuase of standard compression ratio, what sort of boost would be reliable with a compression of 8:1? provided the head gasket dosnt let go?

I believe that you can go close to 14psi with injection and a good intercooler!!

Low C/r is the go 7-8to1.Low octane fuel is to with big boost so it migth be a bit hard to start on cold mornings.Just found my book on TURBOCHARGERS by Hugh MACLNNES, turn to page 113 it said,Tractor pullers have reported intake-manifold pressures as high as 105psig,on desel. This is a old book 1974 ish.
