Nothing poo about the 3 bearing crank, just get it balanced right. A10's have made 110hp at the wheels, sure that's when they're spinning at 10,000 but it goes to show that the three bearing crank can at least spin to 10,000.
The one I have has been bored heavily, and had most of the components lightened. The head is fairly standard with lightweight valves and retainers. So I guess I'm going for a very revy little motor with a pretty high top-end. The performance parts are just the same as what any other a-series would use, the A10 push-rods are already hollow so that's a bonus. With the camshaft though you will have to be mindful that it is the early type with the oil and dizzie drive at the front of the motor.

I think a hot a10 is a great idea and something not many people have done before. Would be nice and high revving

oh well ill talk to the guy who built my dads 253. see what he thinks, im still going to try and go ahead with it. even if it doesnt get heaps of power. Id be happy with 80-90 rwhp. would just be neat to have a nice a10 in the engine bay.

would an a12 crank be better, and would it be possible to fit?

i dont think it would be possible,i think the a10 would still a good motor with a nice exhaust and some small mods.i just dont think it would worth the cash trying to make big hp out of one.

get an a12, get bige to work his magic turning it into an a14 and then stamp a10 on the block
. there's no physical difference between a12 and a10 motors are there?

Nothing wrong with 3 bearing cranks, Nissan forged castings are perhaps
amongst the best in the world for mass produced cars. My 3 bearing crank 2ltr dinosaur engined 4.5tonne (sometimes 5) camper has been around Oz twice and its been abused viciously yet still goes strong. An A10 with slightly ported round port heads, 3 angle cut valves, 1mm offset ground crank for 60mm stroke, using oversize bearings & bored +3mm to 76mm bores = 1089cc. Carbs like Clyons8 quad 32mm, good extractors, electronic ignition, angled shaved for some higher compression and youll have an economical, responsive and fun engine. My first a10 had the above & gx valve springs then when I went to a15 preferred the a10. It wasnt as powerful as the same setup a15 with 79mm bores but it was fun to revvy away everywhere and use very little fuel. The gearing was perfect with the 4.11 rear whereas the a15 needed a 5 speed and yet when I did 1st gear was useless. Another choice is 76mm e15et pistons (low comp a15 are the same) and a Topgear t20 drawthrough with single 1.75 inch carby at 10-11psi. Should get 85-90 hp atw.

i dont mind if its not economical or even if it doesnt reach those power figures. but im definatly sticking with the a10. it seems like alot of people who own 1000s just put an a12 in so id like to keep the a10 n hot it up. everything is going to be polished in the engine bay braided lines and speedflow fittings and hide/clean up the wiring :)
pulled the motor and gearbox out yesterday so the sanding of the bay will start this week.
