5 days on, I still got no power, no phone, and no water. I'm at a mates tonight to have a shower. I spent the day after the shake helping set up fill points for the fire service around the place. I've seen no TV, but I've heard about what people have said have been on it. But seeing with my own eyes how destroyed the CBD is, was quite sureal. It's going to be a solid decade plus before the place is rebuilt.
I spent all day today on a front end loader cleaning up the untold silt that has spewed from the ground everywhere. I asked one of the truck drivers how much silt was piled up at the pit. He reckoned 50,000-75,000 tonnes. and theres still a sh1tload left to go too. You know things are tough when you look forward to going to work so you can use the porta loo.
But my and my family made it through okay, and my house is still standing.
plus, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. So I'm going to keep on keeping on!

Can only imagine what you and the rest of Chch are going through. Just know all of NZ and all kiwi's at home and abroad will be right beside you to support.

Looking forward to seeing Chch rebuilt and better than ever before, will def be coming over for a holiday and supporting the area.

Hey Bart,
If there is anything that I can do just sing out.
Our house is toast but still liveable and we have sewarage, power and water so we are very fortunate.
Just got back from a weekend in Dunedin and man, it was good to have some uninterupted sleep.
Just been looking at Mr Moons website ( predictweather.com ) and that makes some very interesting but scarey reading and if he is correct then brace yourself for March 20, its going to be worse...
Cheers
Dave

I got power back on at my house last night! woohoo! Me and the mrs were lierally jumping for joy when I heard the refrigerator start up. No more eating my breakfast by torchlight, or having to throw out a 3/4 full botttle of milk cos it'd gone off. Still no water on yet, but I've been showering at friends houses.
Spent the weekend and part of today helping my dad move out of his house. His whole area is toast. Major land subsidence, and liquifaction. I doubt that he'll be able to rebuild on his section.

Thanks for the offer Dave. Everyone has been pulling together, to keep the ball rolling. The roads on my side of town are unbelievable. I don't know if Christchurch will ever be the same. The infrastructure has been annihilated. and 50,000 people have no access to their place of work. thats like one 8th of the population of this city...........

I thought I'd bump this thread for sh1ts and giggles.
While the story is probably long gone from the headlines outside of NZ, Christchurch is still pretty a pretty fvcked up city.
We're still getting rocked by aftershocks. We had a 5.3 tonight.

Here's a few links.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbXJJN9ZSFc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6-knLM7MZA (bit of a piss take, but thats what it was like the day it struck)
And here's a sweet vid of some skaters ripping up the quake damaged city. That piece of ripped up road at the start is (or was) a piece of road I use everyday.
I work for a local roading contractor, and I've not finished before 6pm all this week. There is so much damage that it's going to take an eternity to put things back the way they were. I've heard that one more big shake, and the sewer network will be toast. As it is there are thousands of households who are having to use chemical toilets.
The worst part is that my local pub (only 4-5 mins work from my house) has been forced to close. and I've heard rumours it wont reopen. Another iconic pub that opened in 1907 was torn last weekend too. it was the first pub in NZ to have a beer garden. Even my dad used to get his half gallon jars filled there when he was a teen. Never mind the old churches, and the like. The real tragedy is the pubs!
I've even heard that our major brewery may have to be torn down! We'll have to go and hold hands and sing Kumbaya as the wrecking ball does it's thing if they do demolish that building!

One more big shake, and I'll be seriously considering it!
But you guys have too many harsh laws about building cars. The stuff you guys aren't allowed to do is just plain draconian!
