Nice work Simon. Bet those figures put a beaming smile across your face.

A pretty complex and unconventional setup [from what I've gathered] that is well worthy of those figures seeing the amount of time and effort you've put into it. I'm still spewing I didn't get to see it when it was here in SA.

Hats off to you sir!

Mike, I burst out laughing when I saw you buy someone elses twin turbo A series project and I enjoyed reading about it. Although most datto owners are budget conscious, in reality most working class blokes are with most hobbies. In this case just pointing out the guy has other commitments and this is an intermediate setup towards his bigger picture as hes stated in previous posts.

Its quite easy to just blurb out do this and that but for some skinning a cat like everyone else does is not a challenge worth entertaining. Unconventional twin cam boosted A series that makes power from 5-10k bring it on!!!

As for the long stroke in a taller block, the rod stroke ratio will be improved. Most speedway and long time A series gurus swear by it, especially at such dizzy rpm.

If heat loads are a concern you could consider water injection. Roughly the same flow as the fuel. Might be worth an exhaust temp guage? That would give you an indication of the heat loads I woud think. I read a paper a while back on how effective water injection is at reducing heat loads on engines. Could dig it up if you're interested.

I had a major melt down of this engine on Wednesday night. The engine runs coil on plug ignition and they have built in ignition modules. The earths for these coils are in pairs, The earth for the front two coils came loose under load and was triggering the coils each time the earth lost contact making the coils fire the plugs at random times as well as when the ECU told them to fire!!

The end result was cylinders 1 and 2 runing into detenation and sending bits of piston and rings out the exhaust valves and through the new turbo.

2 stuffed pistons
1 damaged head
2 bent valves
1 stuffed turbo

Not the ideal preparation 2 days before Winton!

36 hour rebuild!

New pistons, rings, reco the head, S-hand turbo and hone the block. I also fitted an EGT guage this time.

Friday night back on the dyno to retune.
I only had non resistor spark plugs so used them. but this cooked one of the coils, effectivly puting me out of the racing on the weekend.

Next round is at Philip Island in 5 weeks.

I`ll take some footage of it and post it up. It`ll be a few weeks tho.

something so small did so much damage... thats horrible and to put in a marathon effort to get outed by a burnt coil... at least you sound semi-positive. keep up the good work.

interesting to be able to discover the problem by data recording i presume?

To be so close and yet miss out by some earthing issues is painful.
Hope you get another a12 going soon with the same finely tuned setup.
