Wow 4mm lift on the facet pump is more than the factory spec for a bigger cc engine. 4mm is HUGE.

I have size 40 pump nozzles and the facet arm doesn't even move..... at all. It still bogs down in low revs and high gears up an incline so I have finally found some 35 nozzles, which are pretty hard to find hopefully that will fix the issue.

Got a video of this thing running, would be great to see.

hopefully if i disconnect the pumps then it will go back to the way it was ,never bogged

the main thing im glad about it it doesnt pop once its warmed up ! yeeoww

ok today i did some testing of stuff on my ute !

found out tim had the idea in his head that the idle screws were not at all usefull so he screwed them in all the way after profiling the ends ,and then he set the carbs at the throttle shaft to idle ,ssooooo the throttle stop screw was being used to get the carbys to idle ! instead of and the idle screws were screwed in all the way ,so i rang him and he said they didnt make any difference to the idle speed so i pulled to tops of the carbs ,pulled the little ally plug and oring out of the carb and removed the weight and ball bearing aswell as the jet blocks out of the carbs ,then i used compressed air to carefully blow out the idle screw and pump nozzle chambers ,then i check the carbs for any traces of crap ,and i found abit of shiet in sitting in the bore of the first carby (blown out from the idle screw chamber

i then put the pilot jets in carby cleaner and blow them out with air to find abit more crap in them !

next i put the carbs back together and pulled all the plugs out of the motor

next i used my fancy compression tester to check the rings ,cos i was abit curious to why the motor blows abit of smoke (fuel or smoke ,not sure its kinda bluey and goes black) so i tested all 4 cylinders to find

Cylinder 1 = 150psi
Cylinder 2 = 145psi
Cylinder 3 = 110psi
Cylinder 4 = 150psi

this then let me to adding a little oil to cylinder 3 and retesting the cylinder ,i then got a reading of 175psi !!!!!! huge difference ,so now i who this little motor has got clapped out rings !

but im super stoked cos after reading through all of chris's carby posts ,i found a list of stuff to check and clean ,so i though im bored and i might aswell clean then ,so i did and once i started the motor again i warmed it up and got all the oil out of the system until it ran smooth and didnt blow huge clowds of smoke anymore

i then followed the intructions given to me by chris in another thread on how to balance them in which i did and i got the idle screws to function properly too !

so after i balanced and set the idles on the carbs i decided to drive up and down the drive way from a standing start to see what it would handle like with it all sorted ,and it drives almost as good as it did when i gto it ! the carbs dont shudder the whole car when at idle like it used too

but it does do the old pop or 2 at low revs when i take off but it is running 55 pilot jets and im getting them drilled on monday ,if it stops popping ill be realy satisfied that it is finally tuned !

and it doesnt blow any smoke anymore !
i think after cleaning the internals of the carbs it has fixed a few things ,plus there was abit of crap in the bottom of the bowl which cant help the carbs do there thing either !

keen to ge for a decent drive and see what it handles like under load, coasting ,WOT from cruising and so on

and im not running the throttle pumps either ,i figure if it doesnt pop without them i dont need them ,and it pulls harder now then what it did with the pumps (but they were making it run too rich)

anyways i am quite happy with my efforts and but i still would like to do a plug test after going for a drive ,cos if its running rich up high ill put smaller main jets in it to hopefully solve any overfueling and give me a little more power :D

thanks to mike ,nigel and chris for all there help and advise with getting my carbs sorted ,there awesome when they work!

Good to hear mate, Chris is a wealth of knowlege with carbies (and many other things) good to hear you took his advise.

Still thing you should get it on a dyno aswell.

no i dont want to find out that it only make like 50hp atw hahahah

nah the guy next door has dyno rollers for setting gas up and he said for $50 i can put it on the rollers and shove the o2 sensor up its bum to find out how clos it is ,but if it makes fuk all power then ill get ripped on even worse by the guys there than i do now

just have to rip a skid out the front to impress them !

oh wait i dont need to ,they done have a datto so i dont need to prove a thing !

Doesn"t matter about the power output figure, all that matters is its running well and your happy with it.
If its 50hp ATW and runs great... all good!
Take it to RPW.

yea if i can get it up there i will ,but i was thinking bou taking it to sikpac cos they have a dyno with an 02 sensor and they could do it ,but it would cost around 300 for a run or 2

tim has the sensor and only charges 80 to put it in and drive it under load and stuff ,i think it has to be more acurate cos on a dyno the car isnt moving and the results must change form when you actauly drive the car around compared to being on a dyno ,but them im probably wrong haha

anyways ,im happy ill do aplug test and get the jets drilled a little ,then once it stope popping ill be happy and then i can drive it without thinking its going to die somewhere haha

Dyno : $100/hr, get the tune as close as you can then let the dyno get it the best it can be.

yeeaaa but the thing is

getting jets isnt as easy as dellos or webers ,so if i send it there ill just get another bill but it would be huge ,cos it means they would ahve to wiat 2 days at a time to get jets and they would charge heaps ,then theres the whole thing of getting the car there

its the best place to go but its not practical ,there is no realt ime i could take it up there ,and plus there is 2 shops in mandurah that have dynos and being next too one i could park the ute in dads shop and the other being sikpac racing ,is 20odd meters from work haha dunno ill do a plug test and see what i get but at the moment im stoked ,popping is still there at low revs but it stops after about 1/4 throttle then itdoesnt pop at all and is very responsive

drives like a standard one now just goes heaps better hahah

not too keen on spending heaps and heaps getting this motor 100% perfect ,ill settle with 99% and get RPW to tune them on the A15 once its sorted ,still need to pick it up though hehe (sorry mike!)

trust me nigel ,its better now than what it was when i got it back from tim and i got it sorted in a day not 2 weeks ! ,plus strangely enough he bough new pilots in 55 when it had non drilled 55 in it ! so i paid for a set of new jets that i already had in that size ! ow well ill get the old ones drilled then ill have a set of 55 to add to my stash when im done tuning :D

i was so happy with my self when it drove like a dream today ,so i did a celebratory standstill in the water hahah i love my ute

now rust repair ! ,i need sills and paint ,i did a big cashy today and im ogi9ng back out tomorrow ,100 a day ,so that will be pocketed and saved for tafe fees then after that ill be saving for the sills to get made and put on by maybe yunderup ,a day turn around and it will be 100% and painted ! 900 for both side and it they will blend the paint to match the old stuff
