Looks heavy? You can buy a H145 LSD for that cash (with change).

I don't think I could sleep if I knew there were Alfa parts on my Datsun

Once shortened its only as heavy as a h165 and as strong as a h190.
Although they came on Alfas they are actually made by a German Company
much like Fuji (subaru makers) made the H145 and others for nissan.

Those Alfa diffs are/were made by ZF, which should be well known to any petrol head. Some of the parts are interchangeable with the E30 BMW LSD's. Their parts are scarce and relatively expensive when you do find them. It's only 35mm wider than a standard 1200 diff face to face. They come in 3.2(scarce), 3.8, 4.1 and 4.3 to 1 ratios. Weight wise I'd say it's the same weight, or marginally lighter than the 1400 bakkie diff(which is the same as the 1200 one just thicker shafts and bigger potato)

I fitted one to my 4AGTE powered 1200. I can't say that its been ultra reliable, since I've busted a set of planetary gears, broken off a housing tube(axle tramp) and in December twisted off a side shaft. But then I am/was running 196kw/276nm through it with semi slicks and track bite to aid traction. There are people who run far higher power figures through them, so either it has to do with driving style or they modify it somehow.

While it looks good under the car

The alfa guys guys put triangular reinforcements on the axle tubes
but thats about it behind upgraded 3.2 litre turbocharged v6 and
some even ls1 supercharged engines. I guess the mounting points
are very important from factory and somehow it has to be repeated
on other cars just using leaf sprung rear ends.
I guess slicks are pretty big abuse with axle tramping.
can you tell me what parts E30 BMW LSDs have in common?
I have a 3.4 (i didnt know there was a 3.2) and 4.3 so pretty
opposite ratios. I have access to another 4.11 and 4.3 centres
from non lsd 1800 versions.

found this on alfav6 forums...

alfa lsd discs are same as bmw e30 e36 small diff lsd`s .... i was able to find 2 discs for around 60 EU from bmw dealers NOTE .. late e36 small lsd difs had same spline center but bigger outside diameter but no problem to cut to alfa OD specs .... other interesting note is alfa SEI lsd diff have same discs as bmw large difs 2500 cc and +

I suppose no answer needed, but yes it's the friction disks inside the LSD that's interchangeable at the very least, both the larger and smaller units use the same disks, the larger ones you just grind down so they fit inside the unit. I got a few of them from someone, but haven't had a look at the actual gears and other components yet.

The 3.2:1 came out in the auto versions as far as I could find out. I didn't know you get a 3.4...lol

The tube broke off when I was still using normal street tyres and trying to dial out the tramp. The other stuff broke when the tramp was dialed out and semi's were being used. I fit new mounts for the leaves and made the tramp rods as can be seen in the one picture. I guess I'm a bit to heavy on the loud pedal when launching.

Pretty much did the same thing to fix the tube without knowing what the Alfa guys do, I'm stuck on diy for the love and monetary benefit...LOL

Nah, I could never sell it, it's a Datsun I love it to much. It's just being rebuilt from the ground up... again...

Did get rid of the 4AGZE though, fitting a 20V 4AGE now. NA first, then later on a bit more pressure.

But to get back to the topic at hand, The beauty of these are that they already have disk brakes attached, so no other mods besides changing the mountings and drilling 114pcd holes are needed. I even used the Datsun propshaft again, bolted straight up.

Lots of interesting reading guys :P

Well it looks I'll be leaning towards the H150 so far. Which particular car, year, model is this diff from?

Hubcaps will be heading for the bin.

I did also find some DeLuxe side badge things, do people like these?

Same as the pic, 9th down.

Ive read teh 20v has less torque than the 16v I suppose not with boost :)
Did you use the prop shaft (tailshaft?)that came with the h165?

H150 came in B210 1975-on and B310.

D says the Alfa diff is as light as the H165, and KDG confirms( it is slightly lighter). Bakkie uses an H165? The 1200 utes all did.

Yer, H165 is traditionally estimated good for 305 nm (225 ft. lbs). Must be the slicks and racing application that is doing the damage. They have been ultra-reliable behind stock L20B 2-liter engines as factory fitted in the Datsun A10.
