I just double checked. The prices have gone up. The 1400 motor costs R4250-00 and the 5spd gearbox is R3750-00. boxes about $540- 1400 motor $610. sales@japanauto.co.za . I dont have their website , but they are great to talk to. just email and they will get back to you.

What usually happens is you get a good show of hands then about a 40% dropout and no-show due to the costs.

If you are putting a lot of money down to buy the lot up front then I would advise you to collect 75% deposits very early on and go from there. Even if you ask for deposits first you will scare most of the sht-talkers away then, so you don't get led into believing that you have more numbers than you actually do.

I have had a number of instances where parts were requested only for them to show up and the buyer disappear or decide he does not want them. So play your cards right and get the punters to put the money on the table at the start.

Good luck, I reckon you will need it.

I reckon youll need luck also, There are containers going to africa from
melbourne and I wonder what happens to them on the way back?
If you get 75% deposits from people you can just stay in africa and live
like a king :)

Didn't know it was ZA. Even with no production there must be an extensive aftermarket available like here. If 2007 was the lasy year you'd think one could get all kinds of stuff from Nissan over there still.

Or even regular auto parts stores.

Easier said than done. At those prices you will almost certainly make a loss.

By the time you've sold your 5th or even 6th gearbox things will start to slow, and then you'll be forced to sell for cheap to try and recoup your costs. If you can afford to sell slowly, keeping the market value nice and high (and worthwhile for your sake) then you'll have to be prepared to sit on how many thousands of dollars before you see any of that money return within reasonable and worthwhile time-scales. Not to mention paying to store and hire 2 shipping containers over an extended period of time isn't as cheap as some might think.

A lot of people have tried this before, only a very very small handful were successful but even they had spells of being unable to sell stuff. Small scale is the only way to do it and even then it's poxy money.
