Boosted A series ftw. My forced A series runs a 14.1 on 10psi.

my concerns with the A series are availability, drivability, reliability and bang for buck.
is it going to be a bitch in traffic and city driving?
availability of 5 speeds?
cost of building a tough A series and boosting it verses the cost of a CA conversion?
will a stock CA18DET out perform a worked A series?
how much are you guys spending to rebuild A series with cam, headwork, springs, balancing, pistons, carb etc?
is there anyone in the brissy area that can take me for a ride in a CA powered 1200 and a boosted A series so i can do a bit of a comparison?
im just trying to do some serious research as i only want to do this once. i have my SR project on hold for a year while i get this ute sorted.

I don't know how hilly or winding your roads are where you are, but an Aseries 1200 has a real weight advantage over a CA powered one. You probably don't have roads like we do on banks peninsula, but while an A series will lose a power contest to a CA, on a tight winding road it'll leave the CA for dead. Even on some racetracks the A series will give the CA a run for it's money as it can carry more corner speed. Plus whilest the CA has it's advantages, you will have to upgrade everything else to make it work. Whereas with an A series, all you need is a ute diff, Avenger rear coils, S13 front brakes, and new bushes and shocks. Then you're set.

im with A14force , thats why im going a boosted A14 , to expensive & so much to do with a CA conversion , dont get me wrong there's abit of work to go into a boosted a series too. least with a boosted a series it keeps a bit of originality about the car.

i do like the idea of originality as i already am doing a SR conversion in the other ute but the CA conversion really wont be that expensive as i already have S13 brakes, front end is all nolathane, new ball joints, new tie rod ends both inner and outer, i have new struts for the rear plus reset leafs, R31 fuel tank and pump just need larger fuel lines, all that is needed is shortened diff, tailshaft, engine and gearbox crossmembers, motor box etc. i can pick up NA CA for $500 with box, ECU, lume and most ancilleries plus Kev Rowley is only 10 mins away if i have any issues.
i guess the simplest thing would be to stay A series, especially with the SR on its way as well.
