Went to my local speedy tyres to find some new 14 inch wheels...Now I think the young salesman was trying to upsell me to 15's.After talking to head office on the phone he proceeds to tell me that rear wheel drive 14 inch wheels are difficult to fit on a 1200 and that i should look at front wheel drive 15's.

What suggestions do people have in regards to wheel fitment on 1200's (offset, width, etc) I am planning the stanza strut conversion if that helps...

Some of his tech speak went over my head and I think he knew it!!

He's full of sh$% if he's telling you to go with front wheel drive rims.
I'm from Lonnie to and bought my wheels up here - they are 15's. The problem is that now there are about 4 utes running around with the same $%#$$^ wheels that I've got! According to the guys here in TAS there is not much choice and they only recommend one or two styles - I think they just put it in the 2 hard basket and sell the easy ones that they can get.
I would probably suggest a set of mini lites or even TRX Bluebird rims, I haven't seen one up here with either yet.
Although I was assured my offset and everything would be OK I've had some dramas with the left front tyre rubbing on the strut (just) at times.
I've now fixed this but it was a bit of a pain.
Whatever you choose be an individual - try something new

What are considered the best replacements for the factory rims while maintaining the same RD (Rolling Diameter) ? I know that things like spacer plates and grinding away parts of the brake caliper have been used in the past, but I've also heard terrible stories about it as well. What will bolt straight on to replace the 12" in both 13, 14 and 15" without any of the above hassles ? If anyone can provide an authoritive list, that'd be great

Yeah, you can still get superlite and a few other brands that will fit.
There aren't many though.
If you use FWD wheels and spacers then you have a greater range of wheel types to choose from.
Alternatively, check out R31 skylines at wreckers. Thats where I got my 15's from.
YEs they aren't the greatest wheels in the world, but they are better than hotwires or jelylbean wheels. And cheap too!

If your car is lowered, then the salesman wasn't too far off. 15" are the second best fit next to 13" due to tire size availability. FWD offset is not necessary, but it gives you tons more wheel options if you're willing to run spacers.

the guy at my local tyre shop reccomended these three wheels as the "best fit on a 1200" but there are heaps more out there. I spoke to another guy, and was told some manufacturers will make specific wheels for you- and (relativly) reasonably priced. I got quoted $200 a rim for custom 15inchers.

As always, it all depends on the $$$$ bling bling
