was thinking today:

i wonder if its better to have a standard, heavier or lighter flywheel on a boosted engine???

i guess lighter but there may be some advantage to stay with the standard flywheel weight?

I guess in theory a heavier flywheel has more inertia. So the car won't lose revs as quickly during gearchanges and then stay on boost longer.
However may take longer to spool up. But correct turbo choice probably alleviates this to some degree.
I guess lag is something you turbo boys are used to anyway.

Get in a standard CA18DET and the only lag you'll experience, is the delay between you smiling and saying "Ohhhh man!"
I'd agree that my selection of turbo will have some lag..so a lighter flywheel might be in order. But I'll be sticking with the standard flywheel, until I need a custom one to suit a bigger SR20 clutchplate.

I wouldn't worry about flywheel too much until you get to know the engine better

If you are drag racing a heavier fly wheel is useful in hellping you launch car ,, But once it is rolling a heavier flywheel is a Disadvantange ..the lighter the fly wheel the faster it will rev which means the faster the car will acellerate.. if you remove 5 kgs from the fly wheel or your rotating mass it has 3 times the benefit ..which means you would have to remove 15 kgs from the cars body to get the same gain in acelleration ... Cheers Cam
